As we've long expected, Hollywood is gearing up to make a major
horror film about nanotechnology. Based on the new book "Prey" by
famous author Michael Crichton, it is a worst-case scenario of
nanotech gone bad.
Do we need to go all out to educate the public to try to blunt
problems this may cause, or is the movie-going public sufficiently
Blasé and sophisticated that this won't trigger a big problem for
nanotech? Could it even be a good thing, inoculating the public
with these ideas so far in advance that by the time the issues arise
for real, they can handle these ideas calmly?
