I love writing. Simple as that. From the time I was a young boy, I have always loved stories and engaging in peoples' lives in ways that help me to grow as a person, and so it was that as I grew older, I gradually tried my hand at poetry, then short fiction, and then finally, the novel. I studied English (Creative Writing more specifically) in college, and landed internships and pro bono work with two publishers within a year of graduating in 2000, so this afforded me more chances to engage in literature, and I gladly embraced them.

In the summer of 2001, I began work on my second novel, but it was the first one I had actually focused on trying to get published (the first one I think would never do...I just wanted to see if I had it in me to complete the undertaking while I was in college). It took me three-and-a-half months to write the first two drafts, but because of a series of events, etc., I was unable to really try to get the book published until this most recent Autumn. PublishAmerica agreed to publish my debut novel, The Last Page, in November of 2003.

AS OF OCTOBER 16TH, 2004, THE NOVEL IS NOW AVAILABLE!! The ISBN number is 1-4137-2453-1.

Here is a SYNOPSIS of THE LAST PAGE as well as a couple of reviews:

Karen Sanders is a barista with a painful past that she keeps secret from everyone. The people she encounters at The Coffee Cove reinforce her belief that one can judge someone’s character from a distance without ever having to get to know them. She does not trust because trust can be broken.

Travis Miller is an unemployed college graduate who has recently moved to Tacoma, Washington, seeking to find a direction for his life that will distance him from his own difficult past. Passionless, loveless and haunted by death, he has taken to typing furiously at The Coffee Cove in silence everyday.

Unable to come to any conclusions about Travis after months of observation, Karen decides to introduce herself to him. The unexpected journey that follows will teach them about the vitality of words, the importance of human interaction, the need for love, and the redemptive power of second chances.

"THE LAST PAGE is a refreshing story of healing and love. This story is unique as the female character is more assertive and extroverted while the male character is more introverted and troubled. This realistic yet rarely written about twist of traditional gender specific character traits makes for interesting reading. Likewise, this book does an exemplary job of creating fully developed characters, likely because of these specific, well thought out personality traits. Furthermore, even as these characters evolve with the story, each character stays true to his or her foundation personality. This creates a seamless storyline with depth and a credible feel."
--Tami Brady, Round Table Reviews

In this debut novel, Palmer profiles a young Tacoma barista named Karen who spends her days watching customers and trying to figure out what makes them tick. She's darn good at it, too--that is, until Travis Miller, a laptop-toting stranger taken to slipping handwritten notes to the wait staff, enters the coffee shop. "People in her mind tended to be that obvious, transparent; nothing to hide in some cases, unable to effectively hide things in others, Palmer writes. "But the young man she was presently looking at was different." Eventually, Karen's unrelenting curiosity prompts her to conquer her distrusting nature and introduce herself. Possibly autobiographical, Palmer's book vividly details young, single, post-graduate life and carries a weird appeal. Puget Sound alunmi might get a kick out of the frequent mentions of Tacoma landmarks.
--Andy Boynton, Arches (The University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, WA)

“Brian Palmer has brought this story to life in a way that draws you in and makes you feel like you are right there with his characters. The story is full of drama, forgiveness and the power of love. It will keep you interested from beginning to end. I was unable to quit reading and finished most of it in just a few hours. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone. It is a must read kind of book.”
--Julie A. Bowles, author of: Her Uncertain Future & Elizabeth’s Ultimate Sacrifice

Here are links to two features/blurbs concerning the novel:

The first one here is a smaller alternative paper near where I grew up in the Bay Area, and it talks briefly about how my novel came to be written. It's under the headline "Crayon and On and On" about halfway down the page

This second one is a two-sentence blurb and nothing more, but getting my name and novel to appear in a major paper like The Seattle Times is a major coup for me as a first-time author, so I am ecstatic! :D

God has blessed me with a lot of time to work on this and I am so grateful for this desire (gift?) that He has given me. It is not by accident that this has occurred and I want to be a blessing to others with this ability that He has given to me.

I hope to keep writing long into the future, and not just stories and novels, but reviews of books, movies and music too. I am already involved with an online magazine (http://www.infuzemag.com) where I will be contributing reviews here and there, as well as poems and stories, so that is exciting for me because all three of these mediums are very important in my life and have had a lot to do with the development of my sensibilities, both as a person and as a writer.

My interests pretty much give you an idea of what interests me, so if anyone ever wants to talk sports, movies, books, music, God, family & friends, or writing, drop me a line. :)

In Christ,
Brian
