American history scholar Bernard von Bothmer, an educator, author, and presenter, teaches undergraduate classes such as Big History: From the Big Bang to the Present; The American Presidency in the 20th Century; and Puritans, Witches, Indians, and Slavery. An Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco and a History Instructor at Dominican University of California, he also has taught courses on the Civil War and Reconstruction, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Bob Dylan. In addition, Bernard von Bothmer has taught at Dominican University's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Bernard von Bothmer's published works include an analysis of President Kennedy and Vietnam in the film JFK, in War, Literature, & the Arts: An International Journal of the Humanities, and a study of Abraham Lincoln’s religious beliefs, in Lincoln Lore. He also has had a book published in 2010 by the University of Massachusetts Press. A study of Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, Framing the Sixties: The Use and Abuse of a Decade from Ronald Reagan to George W. Bush explores presidential campaigns since 1980. “This book will be invaluable to anyone eager to know the real story behind the political and culture consequences of that tumultuous time,” said news anchor and author Tom Brokaw. “No decade of recent U.S. history has been mythologized like the sixties. Bernard von Bothmer received a B.A. with honors from Brown University and an M.A. from Stanford University. He completed a Ph.D. in American History at Indiana University.
