Mark Bjerknes has more than 20 years’ experience in the technology and securities industries in the United States and abroad, in central development positions of both early-stage and mature technology and financial services companies. With his work in exchange trading and surveillance systems design, development and implementation, Mark Bjerknes is knowledgeable in stock market structure and regulation, high performance transaction processing, complex event processing, computer performance and capacity, data architecture, and data and IT governance. Mark Bjerknes has a particular interest in the measurement and evaluation of high-capacity transaction processing systems, drawing on classic exploratory data analysis techniques for several practical applications within the field. Early in his career, Mark Bjerknes worked in the commercial software industry, focusing on product development and product management for a comprehensive data management, statistical analysis and scientific graphics desktop software suite which won awards from several leading industry publications. Since then, his experience has been in the financial services and capital markets industries, managing full-cycle development and implementation of exchange trading and market surveillance systems. After working in the commercial desktop software industry, he joined the software and services arm of a U.S. stock exchange, and led a group that developed one of the first thin-client distributed-architecture exchange trading systems. After working on several long-term projects abroad, he returned to the U.S. to join an exchange-based dark pool, and worked closely with large buy-side and sell-side clients as U.S. equity product manager. Several years later he joined one of the first ECNs approved by the SEC. During the course of his career, Mark Bjerknes has implemented continuous matching, semi-automated matching, and displayed and dark call auction trading systems. In both floor-based and automated markets, he has led trading system development and implementation efforts in national and competing marketplaces, and led full-cycle development and implementation of equities, options and fixed income market surveillance systems.
