I love San Francisco where I've lived for the better part of 28 years. The music scene brought me here and I've been part of it since I arrived. I started life in Chicago and lived in St. Paul MN on my way to Anaheim (grammar school), Huntington Beach (high school) and San Luis Obispo (college).

I provide management consulting (security, logistics, customer care, recruiting), and I manage software projects (data center processes, network integration). My most recent clients are Peoplechart.com, Washington Mutual Bank, and Hitachi Data Systems. I also lead college student teams at San Francisco State U.'s Campus IT Solutions. If you are interested in learning more about our capabilities (including documentation, SharePoint and other content management solutions, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, requirements, design, development, QE/QA, training, deployment), please send me a message here on Ryze.

Previously in my technology career, operations and project management were my main focus. At several online companies (DigitalThink, Preview Travel, StockPower, HomeAccount) and large technology shops (BofA, Oracle) I had great work experiences with great people, in everything from credit card processing to bank branch automation.

I am obtaining a Masters Degree in Nonprofit Administration at University of San Francisco (May 2006 graduation cohort). I've worked for 14 years for the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Percussive Arts Society. The PAS was founded in 1961 and is a worldwide network of musicians involved with everything from rock drumset to timpani. Here in California we produce Days of Percussion where you can meet and learn directly from some of the best musicians on the planet. The annual PAS convention (known as "PASIC") is one of the most amazing gatherings (5,000+ attendees, four days of live music) I've ever seen. At the 2003 PASIC I was honored with the "Outstanding PAS Chapter President" award for my work in this volunteer role.

As you might have guessed I'm a percussionist and most of the time lately my axe is vibraphone. I also play marimba, bass marimba, roto-toms, shakers, claves, and synth (Roland XP-60). Recently I've incorporated loops and digital delay into my live marimba playing using an Akai Headrush pedal. For 11 years I've used a Yamaha QY20 sequencer for composing, practicing and occasionally in performance. Since 1991 I've led the jazz band Echo Beach. The blog I write reflecting my musical life is here. Four Echo Beach tunes (two of which I wrote) can be heard online here and the two songs I wrote can be legally downloaded here. I just completed writing soundtrack music for the website Modus Operandi, which is promoting a screenplay written by my brother James.

Favorite music / musicians are too many to list but here's a short sample: 10cc, Pat Metheny, Aimee Mann, Jean Sibelius, Evelyn Glennie, Art Blakey, Lewis Nash, Mike Mainieri, Terje Rypdal, David Lindley, Jim Keltner, Hal Blaine, Jose Neto, Airto Moreira, Michael Nesmith, Thin Lizzy with Phil Lynott, everything but the girl, Eno, Gary Burton, Television, Dave Holland, Celso Alberti......ok that's enough.

Travel, photography, hiking, and bicycling are among my infrequent hobbies.

You're invited to visit my brother James's page here on Ryze. James is a writer/director/actor in Hollywood.

Thanks for stopping by my Ryze page. - Blair
