Finally, a bit of news from Dave!
2005 is the breakout year for Apex. We've just launched bodybugg™, the world's most intelligent calorie management system. I've been wearing one of these powerful devices for several months, and I'm amazed at what I'm learning about my calorie expenditure, calorie intake, and how my body works. I love to talk about bodybugg, so please let me know if you have any questions.
The rest of this, while true, is seriously dated. I need to do some serious Spring Cleaning in here....
Dave Whelan received his MBA from the UCLA Anderson School, where he concentrated in entrepreneurship and finance. At Anderson (not to be confused with any suspicious accounting firms), he was active in many of the school's entrepreneurial activities, including serving as a co-chair of the 2002 Entrepreneur Association Conference, (Re)building Blocks for Entrepreneurship. In addition, he served as a teaching fellow for Anderson's Management Development for Entrepreneurs certificate program. He was a founder of the school's student magazine, The Invisible Hand, where he served as Design & Layout Editor. He is a recipient of the Gloria Appel Prize, the Patrick J. Welsh Fellowship, and the Anderson Fellowship. He was a volunteer mentor for the Riordan Fellows Program. Since June 2001, he has worked with Mission Ventures in San Diego to help launch Bullrun Financial Inc., an innovative portfolio management system for institutional money managers. His focus has been in marketing, strategic planning, and business development. Dave continued his work with the company's London-based founding team while studying at London Business School in fall 2001. Prior to beginning his MBA studies, Dave spent over six years as a retained executive search consultant with Ethos Consulting Inc., where he was most recently a Principal. At Ethos, Dave managed a number of senior-level searches and represented the firm in a business development capacity. As a consultant and confidante to his clients--primarily CEOs and venture capitalists--his mission was to help to build management teams that could build successful enterprises. His search practice was focused on venture-backed technology start-ups, but he worked with a range of firms, both established and early-stage, in a number of industries: telecommunications, software, hardware, consumer products and retail, entertainment, and consumer and professional services. In addition, Dave was responsible for the development and implementation of information systems and strategies that served the firm through six years of staff and revenue growth. Earlier in his career, Dave held operational and information systems roles with a San Francisco-based biotechnology investment and administrative management firm. Dave holds a Bachelor of Science in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University. Originally from Central Pennsylvania, he lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 11 years before relocating to Los Angeles for business school. Dave's interests include photography, travel, genealogy, and rock 'n' roll history. He is a former member of the board of directors of the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival and the former Bay Area President of the Stanford Alumni Association's Cardinal Young Alumni.
