Haint by Joy Ward Prologue from Haint
Your time is coming to an end. And the experiment we began over 50 million years ago.
We saw it coming centuries ago but we couldn’t stop it. Humans were bound and determined to destroy themselves. There just wasn’t anything we could do. We tried to help, but, well…
It has been almost a century since those times, the time of the Warming as it’s called now. No one really knows how many humans are left alive. The humans have lost count, but not hope.
I’m Haint and I’ll lead you through this time, when humans look to us to give them meaning, direction and hope. I wish we had some left to give.

The Awful Noise and Other Terrible Stories by Elaine Andreassen
Have you ever wanted to visit paradise? A place where the sun always shines and the breeze is always warm? The Islands of the Caribbean are very much like that. The author accompanied her husband Ross to Montserrat in the fall of 1989 so he could go to medical school. During their twenty-two months on the island, she had many introductions to the local sights and sounds. The animals, people and places did exist, but the island is now vastly changed from what it was during her stay there. Shortly after their departure from the island in April of 1992, the previously dormant volcano smoldering in the mountains behind their beloved plantation home came roaring to life. Now many places mentioned in her forthcoming stories are buried under many feet of volcanic ash. Animals and people have had to find new places to call home. While on the island, Mrs. Andreassen taught in a local school and became known to students, teachers, parents, and local business people from all areas of the small island. The drawings illustrating her forthcoming stories are all take from experiences and visits to the many beautiful and exotic places previously known to the islanders. Literary license has been taken with facts about the animals, their habits and life needs. Finding out how they really live will take a trip to a library near you. To the children and grandchildren who will never know Montserrat as it was before "The Volcano", I lovingly dedicate this book.
