Layla Taj is a multi-talented artist with the gifts of dance, music and acting. She is an expert in authentic Egyptian and Middle-Eastern style oriental dancing. Blessed with a body like an hour glass, she posseses the right curves, feminine grace and soulful delivery which compliments the intricate and sensual moves of Raks-Al-Shaqi. Her classic features, breathtaking coloring of an olive complexion, expressive brown eyes and golden hair sets her look apart from most oriental dancers. Numerous famous songwriters have written songs about her and she is known to bring tears to the eyes of her audience when she dances. What can one say about Layla Taj is one can't help being taken in by her charisma and exotic light. Master Egyptian teacher Dr. Mo Gadawwi said of Layla: "There are dancers and there are stars..Layla is a star!" Originating from Long Island, New York, Layla Taj started her dance training and music knowledge with the support of her parents in her early childhood at the age of five studying ballet . By age nine she was studying classical piano and the viola .At age twelve she was acting on auditorium stages, chosen to play the role 'Helen of Troy' . With a German father who's hobby was playing the sax and a Greek mother who is a singer, actress(a SAG member) and a beauty queen(GAPA ..Miss Greek America Pageant) it is no wonder why so much beauty and artistic feeling exudes from Layla's performances. "Music was always playing in our house and dancing was in our blood, even around the kitchen table", says Layla. In her early teens she studied dance at The Eleanor Durkin School of Dance and appeared in dance recitals ,she then went on to The Rockville Centre Academy of Dance which provided live musicians studying ballet, modern and modern Jazz. Fresh out of high school , Layla composed and produced over 130 songs .She is a bilingual singer with an incredible range . Layla then moved to the big city of Manhattan. She studied acting and modeled on the runways in the famous 7th Ave. fashion district, then suddenly landed a major record deal with WEA International Records (Warner/ Electra /Atlantic) and Quality Records in Canada with a dance song she wrote and co-produced. It was voted 'most added' on the NMR (National Music Report) and received national radio airplay . Her song became a dance staple in the music industry and broke onto the Billboard Chart with a bullet out selling such artists as Donna Summer and Michael Jackson. Not forgetting her first love 'Dance' Layla began taking oriental dance classes in Manhattan then received a scholarship from the Goethe Institute to learn German .She then moved to Germany for a several years in order to continue her oriental dance training with the best master teachers from Egypt and around the globe. Germany, Sweden, France, Israel, Tunisia, Holland, New York etc.. and this year a show in Egypt ..this young professional dancer has blossomed and is captivating international audiences with her admirable talent and sensual elegance. Now teaching and by popular demand Layla offers 2 new great videos ...one instructional and one performance.She is also beginning to compose and produce Middle Eastern music for an upcoming CD. As a performer she continues to dazzle audiences internationally . To name a few she has appeared at 'The United Nations' in New York, gala shows in Stockholm, Sweden and private parties for high society in The Middle East.
