Three
and a half years ago, my family moved from Minnesota to Indiana. While
moving is never fun, we made this move knowing that it was absolutely
an answer to prayer.
My
daughter was 18 months old, and I had worked for the first part
of her life in my full-time career. I had a very successful career,
and was well-positioned to keep moving up in the company. My dreams
of "having it all" were coming true.
Except
that they weren't. I came home exhausted every night. I didn't feel
like I was doing anything well. At work, I missed my daughter. At
home, I was stressed about what wasn't getting done at work.
And
so, when we moved, I made the decision to stay home with her and
not find a new job. I had another baby less than a year after we
moved.
When
I saw a catalog and visited the website for what would be my new
business, I couldn't stop thinking about it. The jewelry was beautiful,
and I saw a chance to get out of the house and have adult interaction.
I saw a chance to bring some meaningful income to our family without
working a ton of hours. I saw a huge jewelry collection in my future.
=)
Two
and a half years into my business, I feel like I've found what I
always wanted when I wanted to "have it all." I have a
great job that works on my schedule so that I can still put my kids'
activities and our family time first. I contribute significant income
to my family's budget, making a lot of "extras" possible.
I have a great support system and a company who wants me to succeed.
My success is completely up to me and my efforts; I don't have to
wait for someone else to recognize me or decide that it's "my
turn" to be promoted. I don't have to compete with my peers;
we can all be successful together. I have a job that is truly fun.
Oh
yeah - I also have a bigger jewelry collection than I ever imagined.
Just the other night someone said, "You mean this is ALL YOURS?"
Yep - it's my personal jewelry box.
Whatever
"having it all" means to you - your dreams, your goals,
your success - it can come true, and all with a little silver.
