Some visitors to my homepage were intrigued by my uncommon title. Chief Algorithms Officer. Well, there is a short story behind it, for those wanting to know... I had always been technology agnostic, wanting to side in favour of problem-solving approaches rather than implementation tools. So, the long train of alphabet-triplets ranging from ASP to HTM to JSP to Net to ONE to PHP to ... meant too little to me. Even during discussions with my boss about recruitment for my team, I used to stress on the problem-solving ability that I expected from my team mates rather than their skill in a three-letter technology that might get obsolete next quarter. That was when Udi Manber got hired by Amazon! I don't know Udi, nor do I, for a femtosecond, claim a knowledge or ability a hundredths of his. But, the title sounded perfectly right for me, and I applied for permission to my boss! One of the benefits of working in an open-culture company of 75 odd people is that such requests get cleared! And, lo! Here I am! (Got a problem to solve??) :-) Update -- As of August 2nd 2004 I have moved on, out of Xerago, and on to something infinitely more interesting and closer to my heart. Working with children, building software tools and providing educational entertainment for them. I have been lucky enough to have the support and partnership of AdventNet, a software powerhouse based out of Chennai, and I am currently in charge of Jambav, a new initiative from AdventNet to build soft ware for children with special needs. -- http://www.jambav.com --Do visit our website and leave your comments!
