Have you ever desired to be someone you are not, or wished for the power to transform a mundane life into an extraordinary existence? Such yearnings encapsulate the premise behind Half-Life, a 2008 film whose production team was spearheaded by Richard Hall, the film's co-executive producer. An independent film, Half-Life treats audiences to an inside look at the lives of Tim Wu, a troubled and precocious boy, and his bitter sister, Pam Wu. When the siblings are abandoned by their father, they decide to transform their lives using the power of their imaginations. Along their journey, Pam and Tim interact with other characters, such as their mother, a financially strapped woman involved with a manipulative boyfriend; Pam's friend Scott, who struggles to have his alternative lifestyle choices accepted by his conservative and religious adoptive parents; and Jonah, Tim's schoolteacher, who attempts to reach out to the boy and offer assistance. Serving as a co-executive producer on Half-Life was an honor for Richard Hall. The film, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008, received numerous awards, including Emerging Director Award, Best Feature at the Gen Art Film Festival, and the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival Jury Award, and was nominated for the Tokyo Grand Prix Award. Well versed in television production, Richard Hall acclimated to the similar yet different duties that required his attention as the co-executive producer of a film effort. Concurrently acting as co-executive producer of Half-Life, Richard Hall was the Executive Producer of Paradise Hotel, a reality television show that aired on the Fox Reality Channel in 2008. Intimately familiar with competitive reality shows, Executive Producer Richard Hall enjoyed the premise of Paradise Hotel: a group of single people dwell inside a hotel in an effort to determine who can stay in the hotel the longest. Each week, two individuals are paired together and must share a room. As time wears on, one person eventually breaks under the stress and aversion they feel for the other, and that person leaves—only to be replaced by another individual. By the end of a season, it was entirely possible for audiences to be observing a completely different cast than the one with which the show began. Glad to once again be involved in a reality TV effort, co-executive producer Richard Hall remained with Paradise Hotel for 16 episodes.
