I am currently the VP, Business Development for SocialText, a software company that delivers web-based collaboration software for groups.

I received a law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law, which has the distinction of being the first law school in the U.S. to require incoming students to own a laptop computer (that was 1993, my first year there). While at U. of R., I founded and edited the first student-edited law journal in the world to publish exclusively online. Before that, I was at Lafayette College, one of the first liberal arts institutions in the country to offer all students Internet access. I've been online since 1989.

I don't practice law (never have); instead, I've focused on how technology can improve the practice of law. More broadly, I'm interested in technology's impact throughout the organization: how do you overcome cultural hurdles, what solutions exist to effect change, how do you encourage organizational adoption of new technologies. I've co-authored a regular magazine column about technology since 1994, and have contributed to and co-authored several books (mostly about the Internet).

Outside of the technology realm, I'm particularly interested in issues relating to leadership. Most importantly, I think that the definition of what connotes a "good" leader is changing. Whether this is a good thing - and whether this is a result of technology - remain to be seen.
