Dr. Roberta Kalafut brings more than 20 years of experience in clinical medicine to her current work as Physician Partner of SpineAbilene in Abilene, Texas. SpineAbilene, which Dr. Roberta Kalafut founded in 1998 with her husband Dr. Edward Brandecker, specializes in assisting patients with spine-related pain and injuries. A multi-dimensional facility, SpineAbilene maintains a staff of highly trained spine physiatrists and spine therapists who work with patients to ensure all nonsurgical options are explored. If spinal surgery is required, patients have access to a 1,500-square-foot Ambulatory Surgical Center, as well as an experienced spine surgeon. A board certified specialist in Pain Medicine, as well as Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Dr. Roberta Kalafut serves as an oral examiner for the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Roberta Kalafut also maintains active membership in a number of other professional medical organizations, including the American Medical Association (AMA), the Taylor-Jones-Haskell County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association (TMA), the International Society for Injection of the Spine, and the Texas Pain Society. From 2001 to 2008, Dr. Roberta Kalafut served as the first female president of the Texas Medical Board. Extensively educated, Dr. Roberta Kalafut completed her undergraduate studies at Youngstown State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Psychology. Dr. Roberta Kalafut attended medical school at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Upon earning her D.O., Dr. Roberta Kalafut began her post-graduate residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Interinstitutional Residency Program of Johns Hopkins Hospital and Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. In the final year of her residency, Dr. Roberta Kalafut was distinguished among her peers as the Chief Resident of the Interinstitutional Program. In her spare time, Dr. Roberta Kalafut enjoys gardening and volunteers with the Texas Master Gardener Association.
