Philosophical guidelines:
The world is a wonderful and also a terrible place. To the extent that it's a mess, it's not a mess I asked to be born into. But now that I'm here, I may as well tidy up a bit. If everyone could commit to leaving the world 0.01% less screwed up than it was when they arrived (really, is that so much to ask?), the imbalances in the wealth distribution and ecology will diminish.
So:
As you enter, check your fervor at the door. There are no unqualified successes at revolution. There is only adaptation. Care for yourself and those in your immediate family first. Be a positive influence for those in your familial, social and professional circles second. Finally, do something, a little thing, that will make the world a better place than it was when you arrived.
