I am diving deep into the world of attention.
What is attention? How can we make it a product? My cause is to make attention available like clean water or electricity is available to large parts of the world. Attention is the currency of todays social business networks (SBN).
Some people have even figured out how to integrate SBN into current business paradigm. People like Malcolm 'Tipping point' Gladwell and Karen 'Quantum Theory of Trust' Stephenson.
See this article written by Art Kleiner. Art will lead a module on "Strategies for Profound Change" at the 2005 Authentic Leadership Summer Program.
Basically, attention is the opposite of focus. Attention is the carrier of social energy. Attention is money. You "pay" attention. It is my belief that attention will largely replace money within the next two decades. So we need to translate concepts from one paradigm into the other.
The paradigm shift is from zero sum games (current business, where money enforces batch-oriented, one-to-one transactions) to non-zero games (SBN, where attention is given without asking anything in return). Attention is the quantum exponent of payment.
Remember how Newton was right in the middle, but not at the very end of the physical dimensions? Same happens when you accelerate transactions per second to unlimited speed. This is what happens with attention.
Attention in the head brain is basically three areas: front is future, middle is present, back (amygdala etc) is past. It is fragmented, serial, and therefore needs the concept of time and cause-n-effect. Attention in the belly brain is holistic, is the now.
So what can you do with attention? One is to use parallel time instead of serial time. An example: you know instantly if something is good or bad for you. Then your mind interferes and leads you to a different road. You then follow your mind and end up with regret. The cause of all this is because you dont know how to deal with this instant feeling. Your boss wants you to explain, but you cant. Your only word against him is to say "trust me". But what your really mean is not trust my expertise, which is the past. What you really mean is trust my gut, my attention center.
Feel free to connect with me at aandacht at maakjegeenzorgen.nl
The word "aandacht" is dutch and means attention. Maak je geen Zorgen is my company name, it means dont worry. To me, not to worry is core to attention management.
This year 2005 i will be creating a book on attention, together with Barbara Nussbaum (http://www.barbaranussbaum.com)
Looking fwd to connect.
