Hi!
The fact is that while the mobile operators in India have done a FAB job getting the number of subs to where they are now (we must also give credit to the govt of India which put in place the CPP regime and TRAI), the next wave of "Wireless" will not be in the hands of the Mobile operators as they chase deeper penetration of the Indian marketplace with basic mobile telephony and Bharti diversifies into Vegetable farming and Reliance into everything else. This is depite the fact that they still need to get their billing and coverage in key cities like Delhi and Mumbai right let alone back of the beyond.
So who will crest the next wave of wireless in India...?? It should be someone completely new (foreign)... who will invest in hardware and software and the backbone.
Remember, in India, only 49% FDI is allowed in Mobile Cos and Cable Networks but 100% in broadband and related ISP services.
2 ~ 5 years will show us all....
