Ho ho ho! So maybe we got rain for Christmas -- the forecast looks favorable for Saturday (partly cloudy, and cool). I'm inclined to take advantage of the break between storms to go somewhere scenic and fairly non-muddy, so:
Sat Dec 27 Point Lobos Hike 9:00 AM
Let's spend a day at the coast! This hike covers about 8 miles, but they're easy miles, with little elevation gain and much sightseeing. Expect rocks, cliffs, seals, and cormorants (and possibly whales spouting out at sea). We'll do this in two loops, returning to the cars at lunchtime, so you won't need to carry your lunch. Bring lunch, liquids, layers, sensible footwear, and $ for carpool & park entry. Binoculars and/or a camera might be good, too. Meet at carpool point #2.
No tidepooling today: there's a +5 foot high tide around midday, and the storms may have stirred up some waves. Still, it should be a good day for walking and sightseeing.
Directions to LPSS carpool point #2 (Los Gatos Public Parking Lot): Exit 17 onto Saratoga Ave (Highway 9) west in Los Gatos. Go past first light (University), then take the first right into the free public parking lot. Meet near the Saratoga Ave end of the lot. Leader: Eric Wilner: eric@gumbyware.com
