FYI - Henry Coe annual backcountry weekend (April 24 &25) |

This annual event is coming around again when you are allowed in to beautiful Henry Coe Park via the remote south entrance. It is just this one weekend a year.
It was cancelled last year due to heavy rain, but I am planning to go this year with some friends. I'd love to organize a Ryze group, but the maximum group size is 12 I believe, so not really practical I'm afraid :-( Henry Coe is the second largest State Park in California and has many miles of remote trails, especially those accessible via this entrance. It is also a fantastic place to mountain bike, fish and to admire many types of beautiful wildflowers.
Getting in is by lottery (with about a 50/50 chance for the weekend judging by past years).
If you like backpacking in a remote beautiful area just one hour's drive from San Jose, then I would encourage you to apply. You can even apply for a day permit but spending the night out there is so much more fun!
The park info is here : http://www.coepark.org/
and the application form is here : http://www.coepark.org/orestimba.html
BTW - please note that the application needs to be postmarked March 27th or earlier.
ciao
Peter p.s. maybe see you there - drop me a note if you are lucky with the lottery and I'll give you lots of suggestions for places to go. Private Reply to Peter McColgan (new win) |
