Madhu (Menon) and I had spoken about this a few days back; essentially in such a situation, when you are overpowered and outnumbered, you will be beaten up badly if you don't give them the correct ATM pin.

Your life is more important than money, but still you want to avoid losing too much money! There are some ways to counter this. I have listed a few at http://theunknownindian.blogspot.com/2006/07/atm-attacks-call-for-lower-limits.html.

We should also get more serious about personal safety. Muggings tend to go on the rise where income disparities are high, and Bangalore has become that kind of a city.
