I believe that some cameras have a video option that records sound as well as motion video. Cameras like that I believe only record sound when on the 'video' or motion option.

One of the disadvantages however to this mode is that some cameras use a lower resolution when in video mode compared to standard photo shots. This is because of the amount of data the video takes up based on the number of still shots required for the video file, much like layers in an animated GIF file.

Another consideration is finding out if the camera has to be in video mode inorder to record sound or not. I'm sure with how far technology has come in audio recording as well as photography, I'd be surprised if there wasn't a camera that could handle this - its really just a matter of retail cost.

Has anyone researched this recently or know of related technology news?

Best to all - Cynthia
