Hi Everyone !
First I will introduce myself. My name is Surajit Ray. I have started a venture called Rare Indian Art. In the past I have studied Biotechnology and then subsequently worked for a French company called Schlumberger. I have since the last two years made the best effort I could, in getting folk and tribal artists of India a foot hold in the internet domain.

The folk and tribal art forms in India need the help of the urban population to make it to the next generation. Being an artist myself I have decided to take our art and tradition to a wider audience. My wife has been my biggest support and she manages all the content.

We have hand-picked an array of folk artists from across India and put their details on the website. Also we have a vast array of products ( which is increasing at a huge pace) for all tastes. Our primary idea is to connect the art enthusiast with the folk artists. Therefore we do stuff like special orders for gifts - sometimes designed by the customer himself. We pass on these designs to the artists and then complete the loop by giving customer feedback to them.

We also have a bunch of content writers who go through the art and rate them in four different ways (on a scale of 10): 1) Aesthetics - This rating is about the visula appeal of the piece/painting. 2) Talents - A way to rate the skill of the artists who makes the piece (does he have to be super skilled to make it ?) 3) History - a rating about the history (how old the art form is ) and the rarity in the present times 4) Materials - A rating to give an idea about the durability of the item as well as information about how valuable the raw materials are !
You can see a description of these ratings at http://www.rareindianart.com/index.php?main_page=page_4
We also have a knowledge base at http://www.rareindianart.com/index.php?main_page=knowledge_base

To every one here - If you think that there are art lovers in your town/city and there is a scope for promoting these art forms at your location - please contact me at surajit@rareindianart.com
Will be glad to work out a plan of action involving anyone who would like to help .
Thanks Surajit
