Richard,
When I spoke to the engineer at the AC Propulsion booth ALTcar Expo, we talked about why the cost of the E-Box was so much higher that other 25mph EVs. I think they were 90k or 70k.

His claim was that AC motors were less expensive to mfg. than DC motors; no commutation or Permanent magnets. But then I look back at him and said you took a 15k vehicle and ripped out the drive train and put in a huge AC drive controller and AC motor and charge a phenomenal amount, why? His answer was that they only make one per month, I guess it's a prestige thing.

I asked if they had plans to expand production. Answer was no. Reason is that they wan to become the major supplier of AC drive systems for install to cars, trucks, etc. not a mfg of complete EVs.
