Tea Film Screened in Manhattan Tuesday, 01 July 2008 "All in This Tea," a film by Les Blank and Gina Leibrecht, got a special screening in Manhattan last weekend.
The 2007 documentary garnered praise in the New York Times when it played at Cinema Village, an art theater in Greenwich Village, on Sat. June 27. It returns to New York City in November, when it will play at the Film Forum, a nonprofit cinema on Houston Street.
Les Blank shot "All in This Tea" with a handheld camera, as he followed tea expert David Lea Hoffman around far-flung regions of China in search of extraordinary teas.
The movie examines not only the craft of making artisanal teas, but also the politics involved in mass production and the lives of those involved in the tea trade from the ground up. It combines street and garden scenes with more formal interviews by tea-industry experts. It has appeared in numerous film festivals around the world.
The movie is now available on DVD. For more, see All in This Tea.
