Hi Linda
First thing to do is to go upline and find a leader that is develping their business in a way that makes sense to you. They'll be happy to help you teach you their system.
A lot has to do with the products your company has and what kind of marketing materials you have to use. Hopefully the company is not using the sales & training materials as another income source so are reasonably priced.
There's nothing more duplicatable in my opinion than working with "warm market" although the current fad is to buy leads and such. My experience with such things is that unless you are a god on the phone [not too duplicatable] then it's very difficult to build relationships with strangers. The current trend is buying lists of people in NWM already but if you go that route make sure you know your comp plan and products inside out and sideways to sponsor the ones worth sponsoring.
Network marketing is about sharing with people in a professional way something that you have found to be of exceptional value to those you choose to show it to. Unfortunately most people go around "network selling" on anyone with a pulse instead of network marketing and even worse do that selling with little knowledge and a lot of hype.
I suggest gathering deep knowledge about your business, you don't need to be a guru but should at least be knowledgeable and purchase the tools recommended by your successful upline mentor. Be prepared to invest up to $200-300.00 in tools and materials so that when you do sponsor someone then you have the tools and materials to allow them to have the proper materials to duplicate.
Many people don't understand the industry they are in, they have been educated and conditioned to work FOR entrepreneurs and not on how to BE one themselves so you must be prepared to educate people on how to build a business. It takes patience to educate people on delayed gratification and the importance of investing in their business to overcome people's conditioning of trading time for dollars. Every person you sponsor is a business partner that is looking to you as to what to do. Teach them your simple duplicatable system and help them teach it to others.
In my opinion the best way to advertise with the least amount of risk is to keep your money in your pocket and just talk to people using the proper tool with each person. This business is a relationship business not a sales business, get to know people and when you find someone that has a dream and a desire for what you have to offer then help them achieve what they want.
A simple formula when talking with people you don't know well is to use F.O.R.M. which stands for Family, Occupation, Recreation, Message. When you meet someone you like [why would you want to sponsor someone you didn't like?] then you gather information using FORM, this may be in one conversation or over the course of several months, the point is to find out about their family [have kids, significant other]and whether they have enough time/money to do the things they'd like to with them, Occupation...are they happy with their job or are they concerened about our changing economy or maybe would like to earn more etc, recreation- what sports/hobbies do they have and would they like to have more time/money to pursue them...people interested in investing are great because they already understand the importance of having their money working for them instead of working for their money.
When you find someone you would want to work with and has expressed a need/desire for a higher quality of Life then you give them the Message ...." you mentioned that you would like xxx, are you open to looking at some information that could help you get it?". Give them a DVD or CD or whatever tools you use in your system. It's not as flashy as buying thousands of leads and spending hours on the phone talking to strangers trying to build a relationship over the phone strong enough to take it to the next step but it works. When you really understand compounding then you know that you are looking to bring together only 3-5 educated business partners for this project and help them build their business asset like you are building yours and use the power of compounding consumption... the eighth wonder of the world.
Hope that helps a little. See you at the Top!
Aaron

I would appreciate the pros of this group to post what has and does work for them. I am eager to build a huge downline but also make it duplicable. I appreciate your expertise.
