Navaz Lalkaka
Hello friends,

I know it is a big mail, Very Easy to ignore.......But if read and Followed............a lot of smily faces can be seen in Bangalore............why not join the revolution...........

Dear Bangaloreans,

Especially all of you who are using your Vehicles let it be Two wheelers, Three Wheelers (Autos) Four Wheelers or even 8/12 Wheelers (Buses) …Let us think for a while….You are driving or commuting in Bangalore with all smiles in your face..no grumbling..no fussing..No honking..you are not shouting on any one…no one is shouting on you either. …hey..hold on..before you comment anything..just feel this..Don’t even read further..just feel the above with in you….ok…tell me … how are you feeling now?…GREAT !!! isn’t it?

How many of you traveled abroad? Say Singapore, Malaysia, Bangkok or Dubai?

How many times you might have thought that WOW..if this scene you can see in Bangalore..No traffic Jams, Respect for fellow commuter. Preference to people crossing the roads…amazing isn’t it?

Now let us ask few questions which naturally comes to our mind.

Will this scenario in Bangalore..is only a dream?
Is it possible to realize this?
Can this happen in your life span or in your children’s life span? Or great grand children?…

Donot get disappointed…All these things can happen in your life time...that too with in a short period of time...it can happen by the time which you wanted it to happen…

Well…!!! Now..who can do this?

Should we wait for one Gandhi, One Nelson Mandela, One Subhash Chandra bose or One Vivekananda to come and start a movement to improve traffic situation of Bangalore?

Never…!!!

Bangalore is in the Global list for lot of achievements:
IT HUB, Garden City, Air Conditioned City, Truly Cosmo, Knowledge City..and the list goes on..We never want our city to be termed as Highest traffic Disorder or Traffic Jam city.

Now Stand in the possibility of the whole Bangalore traffic scenario is changed and you are having “SMILY RIDE” in Bangalore. Now answer this question..

Who has brought this change to Bangalore traffic Scenario…? It is You..I mean it is WE who has changed the traffic scenario and made it motorable for each of us.

Yes…Each of us can participate in changing this scenario…

It is because of us the whole Bangalore traffic will become lovable and motorable.

Yes..let us pledge our selves to get “SMILY RIDE” in Bangalore…Bring world of Difference to Bangalores’s traffic…

OK now let us get on to the ACTION…..

To get anything in life we need to give…Here are few of my action plan.

All we need to do is just 3 things to change the whole of Bangalore scenario..yes.. I am not joking just make three Commitments.

Just follow the rules and Lane discipline ALWAYS. NEVER EVER violate traffic Rules.
Keep smiling at Signals..No arguments, NO shouting, NO Honking and DONOT provoke others to violate.
Just display (Show off) to others that you are a strict follower of traffic rules by tying RED and YELLOW (TWO ribbons..just to differentiate if some one has habit of tying ribbon for prosperity etc.,) RIBBON to your vehicle in prominent place..(Say side mirror on Cars, Bikes or buses) and ENROLL minimum TEN people in your life to participate in this MOVEMENT. And each of them will Enroll TEN Others and the chain goes on.

All it takes is to touch 1000 volunteers in a span of ONE month….

What are the responsibility of the Volunteers?

- You need not have to stand in Traffic Signals wear RED T shirt and RED cap..and distribute Phamplets.

- You will not stand in petrol Bunks and take pledge oaths

- You will not stand next to traffic cop and control the traffic.

- You will not form Human chains to display your concerns for traffic problem and thus create more Havoc.

WOW!!! That sounds great isn’t it?

Then what is that will spread this message across?

The whole idea of above self imposing rules is to get the discipline in to our blood..get on to the roots. Have transformation in each self and the whole world will change…Remember the famous saying ..”Even thousand mile walk starts with Single step”

DONOT ever say if I change will the world know? Who will teach the Auto guy? Who will teach the Bus Driver? Who will teach CAB guy? Who will teach lorry driver?

This is what volunteers will do:

- Address Auto drivers association and enroll at least 100 Drivers to join our movement.

- Address BUS drivers association and enroll at least 100 Drivers to join our movement

- Like wise address each of other associations like CAB Drivers association, Lorry Drivers association and enroll about 100 people in to our movement.

- Later they will transform at least 10 people each in their stand, their association members etc.

- People who are in BPOs talk to your transport department and request for one meeting with all CAB drivers of your organization.

- Post this message on all your internal bulletin boards.

- Send this mail to atleast 500 people in your mailing contact list.

- Put this in various blogs and enroll as many people in to this activity.

-
To do all these activities we need volunteers who can take at least ONE responsibility and just do that alone with 100% effort.

Are you excited?

Great initiative Navaz!

I am sure there will be a lot of volunteers, who would come together.

We need to also think of smily rides all the way as we get thrown over, shudder and sway through the many bad pot-holed roads of bangalore as well.

Ring road is a place for sure, one can smile to death under the mercy of truckwalas.

Lets hope we make our Bangalore better.

You are right,Ajith, outer ring road for sure is a place for death!! That's where I almost met with my death three months back. The truck that rammed my car had no break!!

While it took me three months to be up on my feet to continue braving the ring road on regular basis,it is impossible to forget the stupid grin the truck driver gave right after he managed to smash in to my car!

The nastiest stretch is between K.R Puram and Marathahalli not to forget Nagawara!

Navaz,I do hope many citizens second your initiative!!

We are planning to do something on the education front.

Basically, a sensitisation to basic traffic rules. I hope once we launch it, you will try it out and let me know.

It is expected to be launched very soon.

Indeed a great thought and I whole-heartedly appreciate Nawaz to bring this to lights.
A collective movement can truly change the world around you.
Just see around and realize how crazy the traffic in Bangalore !

I understand that each one of us wanted to be the change, but how many of us has made it practical..??

So how do we start..?

Atleast to begin with-each one has to pledge that FROM NOW-,I shall NOT honk to provoke the driver ahead,I shall not overtake from left,I would not use high-beam.Very simple practices. However,I've been strict with these manners myself for the past few years.I am proud !

Friends,lets smile and spread it..

Nawaz, you can add me to form the group.

Best
J

Hi Navaz,

Thanks for posting this.

The next logical step could be to send pledge message to SMILY RIDE ID given above. smilyride@gmail.com

Create forums on the smilyride. Have google group and post photographs of our vehicle with ribbons tied.

Take print out of Navaz's mail and put it on Our office notice boards.

If there are some graphic designers are there here create some good collateral materials for SMILY RIDE..I know Navaz is good designer too!!!

If any one knows address or offce bearers of various associations mentioned above, pl publish here. I will volunteer to go and meet them.

If some one here can translate the above mail to Kannada..pl do it and send it..So that same can be posted on various kannada blogs as well.

Post above mails in various other blogs and paste links here so that all of us can add our comments.

Pl identify any one getting married in next ONE month and request them to print NAVAZ'z mail in an appeal format and distribute it along with their wedding invite. This will add purpose to their new begining of life. If you donot come across any wedding couples in your circle go to near by printing press and take address of any one who has given order for printing wedding cards!!!! Cool!!!

WISH US ALL SMILY RIDE...
ananth

You deserve appreciation Mr. Navaz, for starting this conversation.

I had only heard of Bangalore untill 2004 oct when i first visited the city. But on the very first day i cut down my programme and went on to Mumbai the same day by evening and came back only on the 10th day to catch my flight here. The decision was all thanks to the chaos i saw all around here.

I came back in May 05 to try a chance here lured by the 'boom' i was hearing of that was happening here.I saw contruction everywhere in public infrastucture like roads, Flyovers, and a lots of Apts coming up. But it was all dust everywhere, and Traffic Jams that lasted for hours. I stayed on for two weeks this time. On going back to Dubai this time, i couldn't stop myself from writing about what i saw here. I wrote on Khaleej Times then It was published in 2nd week of Oct. The face of bangalore what i saw was totally different from what i had heard of. It was unruly and pathetic.

I waited for 03 more years and came down in may 08 to start up a new venture here. let me confess this- Even today i am scared to drive here. I hire Auto's or Cabs to go around after being all these months here. But here things have chaged a lot from 05. Traffic has considerably gone down these days. there are no more hour Long waits to move on the roads at signals. But the unruliness is still prevailing. whoever makes the mistake on the road, No apologies!!, it is straighaway swearing. Some drive as if they had forgotten brakes at home. And Signals?. They are placed to be disregarded in Bangalore. Traffic Police- I have myself witnessed in these few months atleast four times whe Poloce accepting Bribes. I have written on MSNBC about this as well. In public, with no fear they do this. It shows How unruly the society has become here. A simple example is the Video Stores here. The Second day of any Movie releases, You get it in your next door Video Shop, and the strange factor is that they do not fear either to sell it or to rent it. I was suggested a new Movie without even the guy at the store knowing me!!. These happen Only here.

Bangalore has to awake.

Bangalore has to change.

You will not survive the competetion of upcoming IT Hubs if you do not change.

before You gotto say ' Once upon a time......', change and restore the glory that i have heard of what Bangalore once had.
