The Heat is On!Views: 5117
Feb 24, 2009 11:42 pmThe Heat is On!#

Kanchana Ravichandran
No, its not about the great heights we have reached in the history of Cinema.
Not even about the much awaited series of India with New Zealand which is about to begin in a little while from now.
Nor the giant strides in the field of Sports (all other Sports), Art, Kalaimamanis etc etc.

Its about the heat - as in weather. Chennai always faces Summer round the year - but I find that even in Feb its more like Agni Natchathiram. And the frequent power cuts are only adding to the already growing list of woes! :(

Any ideas and suggestions on how to keep cool and brave the heat?

Drink normal water with salt and lemon regularly to maintain body salts. Use cottonwear and if possible keep the head cool with hair oil. Skin to be protected from sun burns and usage of UV blocking sun glasses will help eyes remain safe.

Cheers,

I want to shy away from this heat KR

Any way for it.....

What Mr.Shivaji said is perfect. I do the lemon with salt and sugar as much as possible. Tender coconut is too costly for Chennai.(Min 15 Rs). I know they buy it at a cost of 2.50/3.00 at the coconut grooves.

infact, i thought of starting a thread 'Summer & General Elections'. anyway, we can discuss it here now.

Take lots of water or shikanji, avoid direct exposure to sun as much as you can. Use mainly cotton clothes and only cotton undergarments. Cover yourself up as much as you can when out in the sun, use white or pastel coloured clothes, dark colours absorb more heat. Use sunglasses which block UV radiation and cuts glare. Polarized glasses are particularly good.

Just keep the weather away from your thoughts ..Don't grumble or think about the heat and just dream you are in Switzerland..Keep your head cool. Don't get into arguments with Stranger, Muralidharan, BG, SF (Square) and don't ever start replying the queries raised by VKY..(Now who is VKY? Vengala Kadaiyil Yaanai ? Now who is that ? GR ofcourse )

Get through the topics from our Vikramadityan (Thalara manath thalaivan - Padmanabhan ..whether anyone replies or not he just posts na?) single Minded Mohan ..child's career over then waste management then let us see, and ofcourse Pudumai, the traffic minded Policeman who keeps himself cool with his yahoo group and also two line posters.

Finally read the casual threads from Charles the Prince, Sekar Narasimhamoorthy, KR, GB, SS, Jaishankar, Shivaji, PT etc etc to make yourself feel cool.

Inthe evenings you can get into the heavy topics from Charu T.

I just keep cool keeping account of different noses and ears of the passenger. Am amazed at the variety..

The best is yet to come from Brat, the Vaal ..she is like

Seriously speaking

Yes you should avoid refrigerated water/water with ice cubes during summer. Better go with Mud pot water if you really want chilled water. Heat the water early morning and pour it in the mud pot surrounded by river sand.

You can have "neer more". Add butter milk to the water from the "Pazhayathu" and drink it for the morning.

Completely skimmed butter milk(The butter has to be removed completely)

Wash your face mainly the eyes as often as possible with plain water and clean it with cotton clothes.

Have a cotton white cap for your head.

And yes LK(G) has suggested stay away from Me, but I dont want to suggest about others....

want to know what would be the average temp in Bangalore and in Chennai during June to August.

Sorry, I can only give drinking tips, not making tips!

From my memory I can say that one has to put whole raw mangoes on the flame and roast it till the skin is charred, then take it out of the flame, remove the charred skin and squeeze the mango pulp into liquid, strain it, add salt or sugar (according to taste) to the juice and drink it. I only performed the last part, so the memory about the rest is somewhat vague.

But I am sure if you google for it, you will find a recipe on the net.

About 3 or 4 years back - a product called Tender coconut Jelly made a brief appearance. It was a product from Thailand. My daughter and I used to love it so much but unfortunately it did not last here. I woder why? In fact it was served in a couple of marriages we attended and everyone spoke so highly of it. Even today there is a product on packaged tender coconut water. Since the govt is not sponsoring/supporting the product its not available everywhere and regularly. Iam really desperate to taste that, but not yet lucky for it.

Let me first answer the "as though you were born in US" retort by LK.

No not true, But if you have spent half your life in either airconditioned place or a place like the NE of USA with very less pollution to stick to your skin, it takes its toll. And that is why I might not be able to stand the heat.

Coming back to how to kill the heat, Moda Banian and shorts is one of the option when I am going to be in India. Will tag Nikitha ( my daughter) along when I walk a la Abhiyum nAnum style

Senthil,
It was exactly during the packaged Tender Coconut was the Jelly form. The person who introduced it to Chennai, earlier had tasted it in Thailand and as he was not able to get their secret formula had to buy it from him and thats how in Chennai we got an opportunity to even know abt this product.

I thought it would take off v well in Tamil Nadu cause of the Summer season throughout the year but somehow there were no takers expect for a handful. There were also vending booths at stragegic locations but that too didn't do too well and I assume they jus wound up and left cause there is no sign of it anywhere.

Am told chemicals were added to make it as close to the orginal and for preservation. Though priced at Rs. 5 a glass, it was not too popular.

Hey friends

Talking about heat-ameliorating beverages, I am reminded of that efficacious specific called "Jigguru danda" unique to Madurai. If any of you have ever lived in Madurai, you would experientially know the effect of a glass of JD on a May afternoon out in the sun. Incidentally jigguru danda is a corruption of Jigar Thanda ( Urdu )
By the way it is now available in Chennai- you can get it in Abhirami Mall for one.

For a glass of cold sugarcane juice!
My daughter (son is fussy so we leave him out) and I make a regular habit of going to T Nagar or Mint Street jus for the refreshing drink - shopping jus happens ;) Mint Street has the added advantage of eating spicy green chutney sandwich and cooling off with 2 glasses of pure relish at almost every street corner.

Sugarcane juice is a best thing.

There are people who have started to use the iced pocket water instead of normal water or ice. Even if its one or two rupees more than the usual one, I believe since its less risk for soar throat can give a try.

Is your throat 'Sore' or 'Soar'!?!?

A Soaring throat is certainly screaming!!! NOT good for your health!!!

Lk(g) - //'sometimes illetterate platformwasis commmit small mistakes//

Now who's gonna pull Lk(g)'s leg (Pl. pull both legs - otherwise one leg would become longer than the other)

CP, LK(g) is immune to leg pulling. Sometimes she makes deliberate mistakes for others to point out and then claim the illiterate platformwasi status.

I can talk about Shrewsbury , MA. my abode. Last week finally we had all snow vaporized from the yard. The grass started looking a little green. 34 degrees for Chennai sounds pleasant - Bangalore in the mid of Feb. was close - might have touched around 32 degrees. With the dry weather, it is unbearable here!! (Bangalore 32 can be realistically equated to a Chennai 36)

Times of India Report 3rd March 09

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: Keep your wet wipes ready and get those summer clothes out of the closet. Bangalore has already crossed the 35-degree Celsius mark this year, and it’s likely to get hotter in a week’s time.
T h e re could be a short respite in March-end when pre-m o n s o o n showers are likely. According to the agro-met department, there is hardly any moisture in the soil. Many crops are drying due to this.
“It is likely to go up to 38 degrees Celsius in April. Chances of rain are remote in the coming ten days,” meteorological department director A Muthuchami said. The agro-met department cannot say if there will be a drought. If there is no premonsoon rain, the impact could be severe.
“Summers are becoming hotter due to global warming. There is stress on the atmosphere and no moisture in the soil,” agrometeorology professor Rajegowda said.

What a day what a day it was today.

Very nice 52 deg F about 14 deg C.

The sun warmed the ice and one could see the melt flowing in streets like tiny brooks. By midday the weather was so good that the kids in the neighborhood and my house were out in their T shirts with tennis rackets ready to play driveway Tennis.

Then they was running around all house yards with the NERF guns. We also had our time changed today at 2 AM. Usually the Daylight Saving is done on the second week sunday in March.

The Tulips have started sprouting out of the mulch, the strawberry bush has shown some green leaves. Next week we are expecting some more snow.

The weather in the afternoon on sunday was nice 55 deg F. So nice time to clear the lawn and get all the broken twigs/branches ( beacuse of snow) out of the yard. The kids in the neighborhood have started cycling the cul-de-sac. A cul-de-sac is a dead end road where the road ends as a circle. Most of us prefer this type of neighborhood becuase of less traffic and more parking space when we have party other than being safe for kids.

The bigger kids were all with their NERF guns shooting foam darts at each other and running.

I tried and clear half the front yard(raking to get the dead leavs and grass out). This week we are expecting some snow. After that probably all spring. St.Patrick's Day marks coming of spring.

One of the few things I am becoming unaware of now is power cut. The 10 years in Singapore had 2 hrs of powercut. In the 8 years I am here in US probably 5 - 6 hrs of powercut. I do not know what I am going to do in India. Last time when I visited, ,it was indeed difficult on all nights. But I have the habit of sleeping when the TV is on so when there was power in the nights have the fan and the TV on was my policy.

I believe Chennai is better because of less power cuts. Almost i dont face power cuts in my home and office. But recently i visited Tirupathi(Keezh Tirupathi)within 14 hours stay i faced 3-4 hours power cut.

Even in Bangalore-the IT capital of Asia, i experienced atleast 4 hours power cut during summer and even in June, July once i visited in 2007.

How is the situation now ? CP or SN can brief me.

MB sir - we are in 2009

I am here since 1998 on a permanent basis... however my first foray into this Paradise (Then!) was in the mid-80's (Was a visitor to the India -Sweden Davis cup match in '84 or '85)!

Back to the power centers - we are all powerless ppl. in many regards here today!

No wonder LK(g) felt the 'heat' stepping into Bangalore!

Frankly it would not be justifiable for me to criticize either Chennai or Bangalore! on this thread!!

Yes CP

Whenever i meet frequent visitors of Bangalore, they use to criticize that Bangalore is no more cool place.

Infact i had experienced even in June July it was very hot once. But the only happiest part of scroching summer is sometimes it may rain or even cool evenings. Thats why people prefer to stay in Bangalore.

Chennai today is somewhat acceptable. temperature remain warm. Not so heat and not so cool. comfortable.

We are officially into Spring.

The grass is still struggling to become green but the sun is out most of the day.

Very less snow.

The tiny tots(girls) around the neighborhood are with their pail of chalks and are making the driveways colorful. The bigger kids are either playing basketball or cycling. All of them are out from 9.00 in the morning to say 7 in the evening( that is when it is becoming dark)on weekends.

Some spring plants have started sprouting.

The weather is warming up, we will be in 40-21 most of the days. Clearing the yards are happening slowly. Yesterday(sunday) it was cold (after two days of warmth) so none of us were yarding.

Also, why should the present human race be living for a longer period of time? Why not a mutation occur and we get a new forms of life? Isn't that progress? Aren't we slowly changing our environment by trying to sustain and prolong our human forms and rejecting the creation of newer life forms?

PR,
that is where the difference lies. The monkeys who came here have already got transformed as well as transforms; from starting to ape the locals, to make the locals adopt/adapt. The newer gen monkeys that are coming in are too advanced for this country. Primarily due to undue exposure to a culture that is only for export from here.

Other than that, we are inching to a 41 deg at 7.00 AM on 4/2/2009 ( remember we put the month first over here when we write the date). Not bad at all.

The daffodils are so pure bright yellow outside the office, the pink hyacinth had more flowers. Some folks here have started adding new mulch to their yards making them more red than it was the prev year.

I always felt and believed that it is the immigrants from other countries who developed USA at the cost of natives who were basically red indian tribes men(the red indians were decimated by early white settlers). All the bias shown now towards immigrants now is by the early settlers decendents and ofocurse, the african blacks who were imported as slaves then were left to fend for themselves when slavery was abolished. As pointed out by you the newgen monkeys are smart enough to know the ground realities, so the strategies for survival and growth are understood /practiced/adopted.

4/2/2009 is understood commonly now and 41 deg F would be called freezing here in India .

Agreed , all colour skins are homosapiens own and not referred to here in any deragatory manner.

Settlers need not be legal immigrants .

The same fair skinned people who enacted laws against racial discrimination even now we are aware make racial statements.

Autralians are another example .Glen Mcgrath called Sanath Jayasuriya a black monkey and got away with it!!!!???The same Australians like saints complained about Harbhajan singh and Phil Symonds is another saint among them!!?

We Indians face more racial slurs even more than a so called Afro American in U.S. because we are more successful.

The european settlers grabbed the land of American (red) Indians by first killing them to reduce them to almost to extinction.

The legitimate immigrant goes fair and staight to start a new life in U.S. with all prejudices from settlers.

I believe the Telugu expatriates in US are not paid 3to 4 times what the locals are getting for the same job.

It is true that people move towards the place where jobs are found .If telegu expats are paid 1/3rd of locals then it means their quality/output is not equal to the local or they have grossly under sold themselves ,in both cases they have to only blame themselves first.

I meant the telegu at US. Since MR.GR was mentioning to telegus I did it. All we Indians do that when go to US/ any foreign country for jobs. Its not we arr not worth enough or acepting for under paid. We are sought after only for that matter of underpayment and for nothing else yes offcourse we have the technical stuff on par the local populatiom........

The reason for me bringing the telugus is that to show that we esp (I) have moved to two different countries have taken jobs that a local will be paid more for. And not in any demeaning way. Most of my friends have roots in that community.

At one point or other we all move from place to place, a la Nomadic style. If this has to be stopped then self sufficiency is the only way to sustain. That is not possible for a ever commodity loving race.

The weather is becoming pleasant. Yesterday the first rains came(torrential) the remaining mud and ice on the sides of roads melted , the sand that was thrown on the roads to prevent skidding when there was snow is washed off. The grass have started looking green.

The kids have started playing beach football. Living in a neighborhood with good neighbors is a boon I think. Each of us have a way to engage the children while other parents are busy.

Hyacinths are blooming, the moneyplant has wakened from its dormancy. Have to go and look for Hibiscus plants and roses bush. Have started throwing the seeds of Bell Pepper(Capsicum) and the mint stalks in empty water soaked pots thinking that there would be good garden coming soon.

PR,
one of the reason to adamantly sitting in the Northeast of US is for the fact to enjoy all the four seasons.

Yesterday (sunday) had a party at home with about 7 families. The weather warmed up to 60 deg . All the bigger kids and the fathers were out playing kickball in the yard. The little ones with their cycles and chalks on the driveway.

Good indian food(potluck) and some games.

The outside temp last night stayed at 49 deg F. It is still a little windy. But people have started to tend the lawn.

Oh no I don't think so. I have heard my friends and relatives envy us in India when they have to do all the household chores and also tend the lawns and also shovel the snow from their drive-way.
They have to wait a min of 3 months for a doctor's appointment - have heard such horror tales when one of the kids fall ill and the parents can't take off to take care of their kid. My mom who spends 6 months in US to take care of her grandsons worries a lot and prays that she does not fall ill cause it costs a small fortune during each visit. Parents with lil kids have to depend on relatives from India to take care of the young ones. Only the first time its a thrill - from the 2nd visit they get bored to death as they r fully dependent on their kids to take them out which is very difficult. Life in the US is not as rosy as they would like us to believe.
In more ways than one its a dog's life - thats their usual quote.
So PR save your pity.

Wow! the heat is now turning on the relative merits of living in India Vs living in the US!

But one thing you must admit KR, living in the US makes Indian men and women understand the meaning of dignity of labour. I remember when my brother came back from the US in the sixties, he used to address the servant 'aap', much to the annoyance of my mom. :D

You are right .The dignity of labour is very much practiced in U.S.

The flip side in staying outside in INdia is you need a good salary to live comfortably and need to manage the daily chores yourself.

I was told living in China is very comfortable and hiring labour is easy and they come at a economic cost with good quality/output!!!!!

I would agree with everything KR has said. I will also add that the same is true when you move from one state to another in India. Except of course the snow shovelling thingy.

Let me give my side of KR's views.

1.The household chores are to be done by themselves.

A) Not necessarily. But most often yes.
There are professional cleaners who come and clean your house once a week @ $90.00/ 100.00 per visit. It is possible for a double income salary to afford such kind of luxury. But many of us do not want to and think we have to save and send money back to India for investing purposes.
B) the dishwasher and the clothes washer and dryer does most of the cleaning. The house itself does not collect dust like it does in India even in busiest cities. Also we do have cold and hot water to do the dishes(cleaning the dishes).
In many double income salaried households, pizzas, macaroni cheese and sandwich salad combo are a norm. Nowadays many Indian food are frozen or nitrogen packed and are of good quality and cheap. So variety of food is not a problem either.

2. Snow in the driveway.
Those of us who enjoy shovelling / using a snow thrower do this ourselves. Many house owners pay upto $40.00 - 50.00 per visit and get that done.

3. Tending the Lawn
Same as point 2. In fact there are Indians who do not want to spend on these and go into what is called townhouse living, The cost for snow shovelling and lawn upkeep is done by the association for a monthly maint. fee

4.Waiting 3 month for doctor's appointment.
Very true. But only if you wish to get the medicine from the doctor. It is like those in the lower strata in many states in India who would be satisfied if only the doctor gives a jab for any discomfort.
There are what is called primary care physicians and primary care clinic where you do get appointments easily with an internist, There are of course certified Nurse Practitioners who can prescribe medicines for a patient in many cases,

To see a specialist it DOES take 3 months sometime. I think it is the same in India as well. IF not 3 months at least a month. This also varies from state to state over here.

5. Hmmmm,, My fav topic. Child rearing, Yes those of us who have put our career first and still want children, the art becomes rearing than anything lesser than that.
But even for that , there are daycares. after school programs at all levels. YWCA does help. The public schools do these.
It takes a lot of adjustment in a family with two kids when both parents work. Many households prefer one steady income and the other as a part time career. There are many companies that do allow work from home.

And about bringing the parents from India to US, This is a very touchy subject. First of all whose parents to bring.Second is the monetary issue, Anyone who comes to US needs to have a health insurance in US. This is a must. This does eat into your annual income because you cannot show it in your tax for any exemption.

Parents get bored. This was true in the early 2000, But now, you can get all TV channels right in your TV or in the computer, Going to temple is a problem for those parents who have to give their salutations to the almighty(like my parents), But even that got solved last year when she was able to freely sing and participate in temple activities without any issues,

Anyone who goes to a new place will have commuting issues. It is more in US because we lack efficient public transport. But this again is not different from India. If my parents go to Delhi let us say, they will still have travelling problems. Very few parents can go around any place by themselves without the help of their children.

So one can always complain about the problems and spin it as a even we have problems. It happens in most NRI families, But ask them to return to their place of birth many will ignore the call.

Went to Home Depot, one of our local hardware shops, and bought some seeds, Green beans and cucumber. Last year we had NZ vegetable seeds( pollution with foreign seeds). Had Wax Beans and Tomatoes. Harvested about 50 Tomatoes and about a pound of beans. Tried the pumpkin and squash but that did not come out well. The chillies and mint came as well.

This time trying my hand on tomatoes, okra, mint, green beans, cucumber and pumpkin. Have to see what the outcome would be.

Also this tie trying my hand on fertilizing the lawn so went and brought the fertilizer spreader and the fertilizer. There are 3-4 different types of fertilizers. I have to finish Step 1 before end of April.

At same time I wish I can teach some tamil to the kids. Ha how I wish Nannan could be here. For those who have not seen or heard Nannan, he used to teach written tamil in the agri program "vayalum vAzhvum".

The heat is on, on the street
Inside your head, on every beat
And the beat's so loud, deep inside
The pressure's high, just to stay alive

Caught up in the action I've been looking out for you
Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho
(Tell me can you feel it)

(Tell me can you feel it)
The heat is on, the heat is on, the heat is on
the heat is on Oh it's on the street , the heat is - on

Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho
Caught up in the action I've been looking out for you
Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho
(Tell me can you feel it)
(Tell me can you feel it)
(Tell me can you feel it)
The heat is on, the heat is on, the heat is on
Oh it's on the street , the heat is - on

The shadows are on the darker side
Behind those doors, it's a wilder ride
You can make a break, you can win or lose
That's a chance you take, when the heat's on you
When the heat is on

Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho
Caught up in the action I've been looking out for you
Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho
(Tell me can you feel it)
(Tell me can you feel it)
(Tell me can you feel it)

The heat is on, the heat is on, the heat is on

Hmmm.... Had a good day yesterday. Finished cleaning the lawn for big debris(old and dried left over leaves of last year). Used the spreader and added the first step fertilizer. The weather was around 60 deg F so it was yard mending time at many homes.

We are expecting showers tonight and possibly a little snow tomorrow. The fertilizer should well set in by that time. Found some annuals with bright color flowers(in the picture on the carton) so bought them and have planted them have to see the outcome later in the coming months.

Have to plant the beans and tomatoes and the mint this sunday perhaps.

The tulips have started flowering. At my office now it is a yellow daffodil and red tulips near the sidewalk. At home the red tulips are opening their buds today/tomorrow.

The next door neighbor is planting blueberries this year. So in years to come can look out for "OC" blue berries.

You are correct here on the tons.

The hottest day till now for this summer.

The meteorological dept has warned that there is less force in sea wind and so the land wind will come into effect and so more heat is on the cards.

Is anybody aware that we had hail stones rain in chennai in the last season when small icieles fell as rain.

It is very rare phenomenon experienced probalbly some 50 years back in chennai.

You get it when cool weather frezees rain drops as they comedown to small icicles!

The weather is warming up to prpbabky 60 deg F to the max today. The low is 40 deg F.

In the yard, last years sunflower seeds have started sprouting. Had the kids, mine and the neighbors' to plant green bean seeds. Have to see how that grows. The yield should come in 50 days.

Have planted cucumber as well. And some green chilly and bell pepper. Tomorrow if it does not rain today will probably be the first mowing of the lawn.

So the soil is moist with the rain, so off to planting seeds. The birds are happy each time the see me. I plant the seed and they eat them. I can hear them chirping at the yard. We do get birds that are crimson red, to sky blue and all colors in between. Sometimes we do get Raven (andAng kaka)

I sow the seeds and walk back and these birds have come to take their share of food. The earthworms and some of the seeds.

Sowed a row of carrots, a row of cauliflower and a row of broccoli. Have never been able to get them growing in the past two seasons. Oh also have the haberano peppers (had just two flakes)

The green beans have not sprouted in the yard yet. But the one I did in a bottle with tissue paper(remember one of the first science experiments in Biology?)that has sprouted, the kids in the neighborhood are going ga ga over that.

The moneyplant that was left outside for a week started turning black due to cold weather, Have brought that back indoors.

The weather is keeping at 50-69 F. In california it is 70 def F

Have sown some orange seeds. Have to see how that is going to do , Had a free Apple tree seedling last year from the arbor day celebration. I think it is growing as well.

Watered down the terrace and found crows ,blue rock pigeons coming to slake their thirst from the shallow puddles formed.(found a shikra sitting in a coconut tree nervously viewing the scene)

You may call it a "thanni party" with nature!!!

Just like that all of them stayed without fear of me and soaked up the cool breeze & water.

I have spotted more than 40 species of birds in the same place where a bungallow stood for more than 45 years surrounded by five mango trees,16 coconut trees,50 plantain trees, two chickoo trees, two mosambi trees, one lemon tree, couple of guva trees and many flower plants .

All greenery lost to make way for a concrete block of cement mixer which only absorbs and radiates heat.

I am only left wondering whether with regular watering the concrete block would grow further to project or lean into adjoining property !!!!

I wanted to try something different so I gave ownership of each bean seed to one kid in the neighborhood. Now these kids have taking steps to water the plant. At the rate they do the beans should be able to grow as Hydroponics.

Wow! Heat is on for polls too???
LK Go on! You WIll win whichever way...

A small joke to explain a Good Strategy:

A Famous Gynec was retiring and was passing the the show on to his son.[Period prior to scanning ...]

His son says "Papa, you are so well know for predicting it is Boy or Girl and 100% right eachtime. I do not have this ability and you did not share this Knowledge as yet...so, to tell you truthfully people will be disappointed hereafter as the reason they come for is lost."

Father," Son, it is very easy. Each time I check the mother. I say 'son' and write 'daugter' in my calender. Once the child is born and if it is a son they are excited!!! if it is a daughter, they come to me for clarification as to how I made this mistake, I check in front of them and show...'Daughter' written there. Later I apologize for making a mistake while telling..."!!!
------------------

So, Lk dearie, Go ahead make your predictions and raise the Heat more on CNK! However, write something else in your Golden Book of Predictions Pathway Inc. Ha haha ha I Predict you a Winner all the Way! And this is no Btw, for SF sake...
Have a lovely day!

I am only banking on one thing that BG being BG first will look for posts by SF(Jr), MB, SF(Sr) KR, Paddy, SS, Bratzy and then only will come to LK(g)..By that time the heat would have lost the effect na?

Wow the mangoes.

But, Nature's mystery. Mango generates heat in the body, but we get more of it only in the summer season when the body is heated already. But nature has its answer, if we can fry the mango seed and eat it, we will not have stomach pain. Moreover mangoes if eaten with the skin then also we will not get stomach pain.

sf anna,

All fruits to be washed thouroughly first and then consume it with skin wherever possible.

Dont overdo a particular fruit when it causes problems in stomach!

Belly full of jack fruit in another thread is to be remembered! This kind of gluttony causes stomach ache without fail!

Please learn to enjoy and tolerate the heat .

We learn to appreciate shade only when sun beats down remorselessly on earth!

We cant ask for very bright -hot sun shine in poles and same way we dont have cold and snow!

Nature has a way of balancing everything!

I have started keeping a small shallow vessel with water in terrace ,so that the birds can come and slake their thirst.

There is this crow which comes to my balcony everyday and creates a ruckus unless I feed the feller some tit bits.

Bangalore has b'come cool with showers coming in brief spurts in the evenings....

Sadly the gusts are tearing downs the trees or the branches of trees to add to the woes! More than 15 cars were reported damaged due to falling branches or uprooted trees!!

How's Chennai lately!?

Cheers!

LK(g) in Bangalore and it rains.. so??

LK(g) is blabbering, you are going to say.

(Nallar oruvar uLarel, avar poruttu peyyu mazhai)

SF(sr) and others who are not well versed in tamil, this will be quite difficult to be translated

my rendition of the meaning to any thirukural is copyrighted

We had a high of 93 def F at shrewsbury. The kids were out in their swimsuits running around a caterpillar shaped sprinkler.

Have to contradict your claim.

Ularel - not blabbering: it means exists

So the meaning is

"If a good person exists and for his sake it rains."

it simply means so long there are goodmen rains will be there!

But in summer it is wishful to ask for rains!

Only election heat and summer heat is felt now!

Australian davis cup team is giving a miss because of security concern they imagine! It is actually the heat that is making them insecure to play in India?!

The Australians are the worlds biggest hypocrites with all the faults and they have the temerity to point fingers at others !

We had a sweating 28 deg C yesterday. Had to switch the air conditioner on for a while in the night. The days have become longer. It is dawn at 5.30 AM and the night ( dark night) comes at 8.00 PM. This probably will extend to 8.30 PM in May.

The tulips came. There were three red ones and a some yellow ones. The Biology experiment has become a nice sapling. The rest of the seeds are still refusing to sprout.

The neighbor gave a "Omavalli Thazhai" branch. This is one of my favorite and that is being planted in a small pot.

KanagAmbaram is being sown as well. Have to look for Hibiscus. Last year had three of them and they all got frozen in the winter and died. This year have to be carefule in growing them.

wow!wow!

People with ideas giving a sudden burst of hopes even when chennai is boiling!

Well yesterday I soaked up the heat running around and drove the bike in hotsun at 1.30pm afternoon!

To be honest all the folks were simply doing their own activity not minding the heat.

Came home had a nice bath at 10.30pm evening and relaxed a bit watching TV news in cool comfort of A/C!!!!!!

I realy thought how blessed we are that we can afford many things which the common man finds it as a luxury.

Cool shade is a luxury, cool breeze is a luxury, cool lime soda salt is a luxury, good transport bus is a luxury ,come to think of it all of it comes at a small cost and some are absolutly free from mother nature!!!

Heat is defined as a form of energy so soak it up and function energetically!

We are going to ride the heat waves only when others are riding waves of bombing at Srilanka !!??

Think!!!!
