Denis Gibbon | | Have you ever considered the meaning of Marital love? There is no doubt that a couple who are married live together for mutual benefit, but that is convenince, not love. Love is an emotion which seeks closeness, but marital love is much more than being close. What then is marital love?
The other day I found what I think is a pretty good explanation of what true marital love is. Essentially it is a commitment to make the best home possible for your spouse. By home' I am not just referring to the physical structures that go to making a functional living place, but a loving, secure and peaceful space which facilitates living a joyful and meaningful life together despite the circumstances which prevail in the community and world as a whole. This kind of home provides the most ideal place for offspring.
When the man seeks to make the best home possible for his wife, and the woman seeks to make the best home possible for her husband, marital love exists. Loving is a dynamic activity that seeks the highest good for one's partner. It is an ongoing process wich can at times be blissful, but at other times very difficult and sorrowful, yet like the sun and the moon, love does not cease to shine, even when its rays cannot be seen with the naked eye. Every day is a new day. Every moment of every day provides a new opportunity to do something however small to say by DOING, I CARE FOR YOU. I LOVE YOU.
What a privelege it is to take care of your partner in a time of sickness or trouble. What a wonderful opportunity to express your caring LOVE.
