How long is it since you have given something away that you have no further need for? I don't know about you, but many people in our materialistic society tend to accumulate so many things which they have purchased and no longer use or even need. The realization of this problem becomes very evident when you have to move from one home to another. Have you ever thought how many smiles you could put on the faces of poor people who actually yearn for the things you have.

There is mor joy in giving than in receiving. It is truly a worthwhile deed to consider.

A search of Yahoo! Groups on "freecycle" returns 11,027 local organizations. A freecycle group is a place to give away things you have no further need for or to request things you have a need for. In the US, these are typically arranged by postal zip code so that the exchanges are reasonably close.

There are also business "freecycle" groups where business resources are offered at no cost.

This concept is based on items having a useful life more or less consistent with their initial purpose that some other individual or organization can benefit from before the items are recycled or placed in a landfill. There is no financial incentive in these groups, no charge for items, and no tax deduction as a rule.

The online approach not only makes it more private for giver and receiver, but addresses the issues of storage and display associated with a physical center.
