overwhelming/inundating response is one thing . . . . . but what about the line saying that responses were welcome up to 03 September? and by email to a specified address? with a phone number to call on? . . . . . . . . .

is this connected with why we find call center agents unable to satisfy customers? unable to understand the customers' needs?

is there a market for offering programs in marketing and sourcing for trainers and hirers . . . . . .

Well, I forwarded my resume on 02 Sep and in response I was asked to send a brief write up on myself( which was OK by me) and then this strange request:

"I need this along with a photo .( a picture speaks a thousand words :-) "

Shouldn't they be hunting for their requirements in Bollywood???

Regards
Bob

SOEB FATEHI
come on Bob . . . . asking for photographs with applications is a common practise . . . . . using a casual idiom whilst asking is considered normal today just as friday dressing has become everyday attire . . . .

but do tell what transpired thereafter? deafening silence? did you recieve any communication whatsoever?

a company hiring soft skills trainers must surely be in the habit of writing in to tell unsuccessful aspirants that they have concluded their process of selection and are thankful to all those who applied but could not be accomodated . . . . . . do tell us Bob if you got any mail after your application?

I agree Soeb, at least people should have the courtesy to inform / update on if the opportunity got filled and are there perennial requirement of trainers.

I was asked the same details. I sent the resume and then was contacted for the daily commercials. I sent that too. Then I was asked for a trainer's profile write-up along with the speaking thousand words (i.e.,photo)... to be forwarded to the client.

...and that it. There is no communication... no soft skills to at least inform if the client denied or if the requirement got over.

I too, forgot about it in all these days. But, here I see some strange discussion going-on that many people forwarded here profile, cv etc. and same thing happened with them.

I wonder if all the trainers who didn't get the answer were rejected by the client... and is this client existing out of this universe... for all clients look for experienced trainers with gud training track record.

anyways...may be, by seeing the discussion I am assuming so many things at one time...

This has been my observation. Most of the so called "Training Organizations" call for Trainers Profiles/Resumes through these forums just for one reason - They need to build an impressive portfolio in order to approach clients. What they do is simply select some of the best profiles that come to them and project them to the "prospective clients", obviously giving the impression that they have a pool of trainers with rich experience and exposure in a variety of industries and specialized in an array of disciplines. I would'nt be surprised if they even prepare an attractive presentation in hard/soft form, probably that's why they ask for photographs! The truth is when some of these training companies post their requirements, they actually do not have any specific client or project in hand. They will actually begin fishing only after they have built a sizeable portfolio with our profiles.. lol

I also have been sending my profiles whenever these "requirements" came up. Initially I was frustrated at the lack of any response, but now that I have a fair idea of what they are really up to...

Why would they ever get back to us with a status report, when they had no project in the first place?

It's nothing but a fishing expedition.

In fact,I have received calls from persons/vendors to whom I have never mailed my profile. When I've enquired as to how they chanced upon my name and number the standard response I have received is "from the net(!!!)".And this soon after I have mailed my profile in response to requirements posted here.

But I have never received calls nor an acknowledgement from those who have posted their requirements in this Forum and to whom my profile has been mailed!!!

You live and learn.

This is getting interesting.

I'm someone who been on both sides, literally.

I have sent my profile in response to such enquiries/ posts ( not much in recent times , though).

I've also asked for trainers to send their profiles to me.

When I sent my profile: I've had mixed results. Some -like Etinder from Pune & Shreya from Bangalore - were very professional. They had genuine clients, did business very professionally & are now good friends.
There were a whole lot of dodgy ones too, can't( don't want to ) remember the names.

I only ask for profiles from trainers when (a) I have a genuine client / project on hand & (b) when the trainers who work with me regularly dont fit the bill in terms of pricing, geography , specialization etc.

And every time I put a public post when the requirement was fulfilled or closed.

I guess this is an 'occupational hazard' for freelancers (or should I say Independent professionals, Soeb.)

Till such time that some set of rules/ guidelines are in place, Freelancers should use their judgment in responding to the query.
That's easier said than done; what if we are skeptical to a genuine query? ( Freelancers dont really want too many 'free' days in their month, they want to be occupied ;-)

I try to look at their website- if any- call the number ( if any) or email them ( if any!) asking for information. The least is a PM asking for more details.

"The least is a PM asking for more details".

I've done that too.....but don't remember getting a response.

"Till such time that some set of rules/ guidelines are in place...."

Sounds good, but not sure this will work….. this has to do with Soft Skills and behavior.

Can only hope that these postings have touched a chord somewhere and that those who have been posting their requirements on this Forum, remember to acknowledge receipt of profiles received or keep applicants posted on the progress of selection (if any!!!! )here onwards.

FYI this past month I have withheld myself from responding to requirements posted here.

To add my 2 cents, I have been lucky that I got to know Amruth through this forum only and also got to work with him. I have got most of my assignments through the "net" !! Is it just luck ? I don't know, but it is like any other method you adopt to reach out to people, you never get a 100% response. just a fraction of it materializes and is good enough to keep Independent professionals/ freelancers like me occupied.

If I ran a motor garage, I wouldn't require all the cars to come to my garage for repairs, but I will have to put up a sign board saying Car Repairs. I would need just a few out of all who read it to keep me going.

But recently I came across a post where we are supposed to write publicly how we would conduct a Team Building prog- the content and process and ideas, I am not too sure if we should explain it to everyone just like that...
