I have been in the process of creating a network of potential customers through social networking. Watching my stats and always keeping the content and groups relevant so I will not get penalized for being considered a spammer. I have had progress with traffic to my site this way, and have had sign ups. When using the Social Networking Scenes you need to remember on-line manners and still the principles of sales. It is like you are leaving a business card at each place you leave your information and link. Remember that people are making an opinion on you through your approach.

Hi Catherine,

First of all, welcome to the network. Nice to see that you're already jumping into discussion.

I like the comparison to handing business cards. You wouldn't just push your business card into someone's hand without being sure that they wanted it, and you wouldn't keep pushing your card on the same people.

I've had decent website traffic from lots of different social networking sites, and I enjoy getting to meet new people.

Hi Catherine,

I have a very different approach to social networking sites and have written quite a few articles about this approach.

I use social networking sites to:

- brand myself
- cultivate a following
- build readership for my blog (http://Online-Social-Networking.com)

The strategy is working for me.

While most of my friends blogs don't make it onto Alexa's radar, mine is ranked at 64,837. I received over 12,000 visits in the month of August.

While I do engage other networkers in one-on-one conversations, my overall approach is more macro than micro. My latest article on list building using Facebook illustrates this:

The meek may inherit the Earth, but they don't get very far in business. Boldness balanced by sensitivity can be very effective.
