Beliefs are of immense importance to every aspect of our lives. What we really believe can make all the difference in every outcome of our existence now and in the future. Scientist's have shown us how our beliefs actually control our genes. Genes act like switches that are turned on or off by the effect of our belief systems. This means that our beliefs have a lot to do with the state of our health and our susceptibility to diseases such as swine flu or TB. Knowing this it seems logical for us to apply certain intellectual standards to the determination our acceptance of a belief or our rejection of a belief.

What intellectual standards do you employ to accept a belief or reject it?

What say we look for people who are demonstrating the kinds of outcomes that we desire in our lives. Would it be wise to adopt the same beliefs as they have? Let's say we did that. Would we achieve the same results or are there other factors involved?

Listen to what Dr Bruce Lipton, a Cellular Biologist has to say about beliefsin a radio interview. http://www.newsforthesoul.com/ram/brucelipton-may2009.ram

I would be very interested to learn what intellectual standards you use to accept a belief or reject it.

Good post Denis. My personal beliefs as you probably are aware, are based on the spiritual application of understanding the very broad application of the Ten Commandments as they relate in our lives, even subconsciously for those who are not conscious of this factor, which I believe enacts upon the effects of the Laws of Attraction.

However, because we are not perfect, grace is of the utmost importance in relating to the mitochondrial process as Warrior Monk highlighted.

Peter,
You have chosen well. In fact you could not have made a better choice. In regards to intellectual standards for the acceptance or rejection of any particular belief, the following tutorial makes good sense I think:

Denis,

"The critical habit of thought, if usual in society, will pervade all its mores, because it is a way of taking up the problems of life. Men educated in it cannot be stampeded by stump orators ... They are slow to believe. They can hold things as possible or probable in all degrees, without certainty and without pain. They can wait for evidence and weigh evidence, uninfluenced by the emphasis or confidence with which assertions are made on one side or the other. They can resist appeals to their dearest prejudices and all kinds of cajolery. Education in the critical faculty is the only education of which it can be truly said that it makes good citizens."

from: William Graham Sumner (1840-1910)

I believe Dr. Richard Paul (video) has quoted or follows W.G. Sumner.
