When you visit someone many times the door is the 1st impression you receive.
I always used to hang a wreath on my door after Thanksgiving till
February/March. It was a cotton stuffed wreath in red & green, that I made
when I was a teenager. But last spring, I washed it and the cloth was so old
it fell apart. So now I am trying to decided what to place on my door for the winter
and would like something for the fall. So what are your ideas on door hangings?

Susan,
My wife is our decorator. She used to make grapevine wreaths. One that she hangs on our front door during the fall has several of the fall time colors, like orange and yellow leaves, miniature pumpkins(which can easily be switched to miniature horse and sleigh, complete with white sequins for snow or any miniature scene). At least, you don't have to wash it.lol Tim

In Arizona, on my security door, I had a metal circular ornament with a white dove in the middle and green ivy entwined around the circle, at the top, it said PEACE. It was very pretty, went well with the Feng Shui of the land. But at Christmas, I always put up Christmas Wreaths. I don't know what I will do this year. I'm living the life of a pauper. I had $3K in Christmas ornaments/trees that I sold in July for $475, other than that, I sold my treadmill at Xmas, then when I moved, I gave everything away to charity. People just were not out buying anything.

Barbara

I just thought of something you may enjoy doing with your new friend.

My friend's child made a wreath using finger paint and made green hand prints
to form a circle. It took me a minute to see the print was a small hand, then
I think they added some reds dots (finger prints) for berries, and a bow at the bottom.

I think I may look up some coloring pages for shapes of leaves and make
a wreath of colorful leaves out of cloth, after I finish sewing Halloween costumes.
Then I may buy a plastic evergreen wreath for Chistmas - my door gets full sun
in the afternoon so things fade really fast on the door. I would love a really
evergreen wreath but I think it would die with all the sun.

Oh, how nice Susan! If I can find some of that kind of paint and paper, perhaps we can try that. I had fun wrapping all her Birthday gifts. I bought a lot for $21.50 in Panama City, then I went to a farmacia here and got a few more things, and I had some really beautiful butterfly pins and tierra like piece for hair that I bought in the states that I'll give to her. I paid a lot for them in the states. She'll feel like a princess. I also made her a gmail e-mail account, so now she has her own e-mail account. I think that will make her feel really special and grown up. I'm a little concerned about drawing attention to my computer equipment in the cabana, but it will be ok, and I did insure it. I already sent her a birthday card to her e-mail. I don't know how many people have computers, but surely someone does. Maybe I can find a 9 year old penpal for her. The writing would be good practice for her. I see her read English sometimes, not sure if she is understanding it. We use www.babelfish.yahoo.com to speak to each other sometimes. She doesn't spell well, so it doesn't translate. She seems to use slang. I'm always into learning!!!! I'm also into entrepeneurship and one of the sites you gals sent us to had things to make. One simple useful thing I saw was a Kleenex box stuffed with plastic store bags and kept in the kitchen; they can then be used to line small trash cans, put food garbage in, pick up after pets which is what I do with mine, and I think that is what is needed here. I think she can sell a large Kleenex box full of plastic bags for $1 to Gringos. I told her people can donate the boxes and bags to her. Locals don't care too much for pets here, as is, and they talk about how dogs poop all over, and that is true, who wants to go to the park and step in it or walk on the road and have their pet sniff it. I set a good example and pick Baby Doe's droppings up.

Hello Folks.

I have two front doors, both entering the house from a wide
front porch. However, I only decorate the main front door,
It helps folks know which door is the FRONT door too.
Although, I would think that would be evident, some folks
are corn-fused. LOL

I used to change the door hanging with each season and/or
current holiday. As a crafty person, I've also made many
different themes, and types of door hangings. Including
short brooms with dried flowers and leaves. Many wreath
types also.

For the past few years however, whatever I put on the front
door shows a patriotic spirit underlying any other theme.
In between any special or new door hangings is a US flag
made of wood with the letters "U S A" handing below the
flag. It's rather rustic looking but from the street, It's
lovely against the dark blue (hamilton blue) door.

So, my advice is, when in doubt - go Patriotic!
