Over at ABHP you asked us what the big deal is about twitter. Try this:
Find one of your really great threads that's informative and shows a lot of good, helpful comments.
THEN, go tweet it and link to it. You should see hundreds of views on that thread and it's possible a few new folks might come to ryze and join your network too.
Twitter has been a great recruiting tool for us at ABHP. I've brought a few older members back here and quite a few new members with tweets over the past six months or so.
I don't tweet a lot these days, only when there is something of interest or something I think my followers would be interested in. Such as some of the "How TO" posts that I put up at ABHP and maybe a conversation thread here and there.
Twitter does not have to rule your time online, but when you have something truly worthwhile to share, you will get traffic and responses.

I could see how that could be useful and I've even used it to do so towards my website and online fantasy football network. But how is a tool like that suppose to work if you only have 11 followers.
If all the followers use Twitter Like I do, Not time consuming and post every once in a great while, like you said when something peaks my interest. But if everyone just uses it like that how is it suppose to be effective, If people are just logging on posting what they think is important... Not reading any posts they follow if any at all then leaving it at that.
It just seems to me to be a dead end solution like talking to a wall. There isn't much resolution and I never see the twitter rss feeds in the search engines, or at least none has ever came up that I noticed when I searched.
I'm just not sure how or in which ways it can prove effective unless you have over a million followers that are interested in reading tweets.
Thanks for the suggestion and it is taken into thought, Of course for everyone else this is my opinion and I am open to everybody else opinions as well.
Thanks again Eileen, James P Reardon Sr. Private Reply to James P Reardon Sr. | | Oct 20, 2009 6:45 pm | | re: Twitter Suggestion... | # | Mikelina West | | I'll give it a try.

I am a little apprehensive about twitter. I am on facebook & I love it, but twitter seems more intrusive of my life. Am I wrong? Am I missing out on a great marketing opportunity?

I admit that yeah, you've got me hooked on it now and it has become more than routine.
Actually I did do this during the G20 thing and a few other events and watched it accumulate about 100 hits with in 5 minutes.
Now I mention just about every involvement in and it was in Late September that I really started researching a whole lot more on it. While not an expert yet, I do know enough just to be dangerous using API and server authentication.
So I really put it to the test. Our Beloved Eagle has sponsored this network and advertised here for more than a year so I'm not in fear to post his link everywhere.
http://theeaglesnest.net/community : is his social network and the reason I bring this up is because I used it as a test for twitter. Now with that being said back in September he only had 5 members to his social network, Yet viewing the stats of API authentication mentioning it once per day at various times for a week.
Here is his stats. http://theeaglesnest.net/community/index.php?action=stats Page views showed an increase of 3 and a half percent up from August. But what is incredible, Mind you he only had 5 members then... There were Most Online Ever: 81 (September 13, 2009, 07:27:34 PM).
His hits are still like that, so yes Eileen Twitter is a resourceful tool. Just didn't see it before.
So with this conversation in mind.
@ Kimberly Brownridge,
Yes, twitter is effective at getting a site clicks and possibly more activity as well. It mostly depends on the person though. You say your more comfortable facebook than you are twitter, that's fine everyone has a preference.
Basically the only real difference is the ability to interact with mobile technology as well. Twitter has a few great platforms for making twitter on the go so to speak where as facebook is pretty limited.
Anyway the server load on twitter is much greater than it is on facebook right now too.
Although If I am not mistaken, There is someway to link your facebook and twitter accounts as well as myspace and twitter accounts. I see posts on twitter all the time with a sub-title of posted X hours ago from Facebook and posted X hours ago from Myspace as well as posted from txt and API.
So Kim, you may want to look into how to get a twitter and your Facebook account linked. Private Reply to James P Reardon Sr. | | |
