I would add check your car - snow tires, place a blanket or sleeping bag in the back seat - I had one in the trunk and get stuck in an ice storm on a hilly road late at night, the sleeping bag in the front seat would have been much safer. Place some food, crackers, candy bars in your car not the glove compartment - it gets too hot). Rope, old rug for traction, shovel, sand, wiper washer fluid. Flash lights, cell phone charger, whistle, extra wool socks - they can double as gloves, extra wool hat - you lose a lot of heat through your head. I like keeping a down vest in the car, can be used as a pillow
Okay well I am off to get Halloween costumes ready. I make the costumes 1 size larger for the kids so they can wear insulated underwear under the costumes. Keeps them warm and at the end of the night they take off the costumes and go to sleep in the long johns. So snow or no snow on Halloween they are warm.
