Arka Mukhopadhyay
Dear Friends,
As part of 'The Art of the Performer', a series of weekend workshops in aid of Jamghat, we are presenting two workshops in the next two weekends.

Jamghat (www.jamghat.in), a non-profit organization, works for the rehabilitation of street children and has always been involved in theatre for creating awareness and raising funds. This time we have come up with the idea of giving theatre workshops and connecting with the people.

The workshops are open to actors, dancers, performance artists, musicians, those engaged in the fine arts, teachers, facilitators, counsellors, psychologists, and anyone interested in the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of being human.

The workshops do not have any fixed fees, but we suggest a contribution of 1,500 or above, which will go towards Jamghat's running costs.

Details of the next two workshops are as follows:

"Shakespeare and the Rasaas"

Date: October 3rd and 4th (Saturday and Sunday)
Time: 12 : 00 to 14 : 00 and 15 :00 to 17 : 00 (both days)
Age : 18 years and above
Contact: Amit - 9818705715
Address: F-2 First Floor Lado Sarai New Delhi-30

The workshop will focus on developing a heightened awareness of self and emotional fullness, by working with the grand emotions of Shakespeare's texts. By working with monologues and scenes from The Tempest and Macbeth, it will try to develop an approach to the voice that tries to build vocal expression from the speaker's entire body and self. This will be done by working on the breath, on chanting from the Upansihads, from singing and from body work, gestures and movement. Building upon this work, we will then work on expression by embodying the nine classical rasaas through our breath, voice and body. The workshop is thus not only, for actors, but also crucially for teachers, and for those wishing to enhance their speaking and expressive skills by working with Shakespeare's language.

"Breath and the Performer"

Date: October 10th and 11h (Saturday and Sunday)
Time: 12 : 00 to 14 : 00 and 15 :00 to 17 : 00 (both days)
Age : 18 years and above
Contact: Amit - 9818705715
Address: F-2 First Floor Lado Sarai New Delhi-30

This workshop will focus on the role of breath in performance and in life. Areas to be explored include:

Breath and the Self - focusing on the breath, being present, being 'without purpose'
Breath and movement - rhythm, character, embodiment
Breath and the voice - being in the moment
Breath and emotions - the navarasaas : experiencing and mastering emotions
