http://github.com/ Popular in the Ruby community. Social Media for programmers.

Interesting place if you are an open source programmer.

My son was telling me how he got his new programming job. He tells me LinkedIn (references) and Github (shows code you work on).

They called him out of the blue. Come in, we want to interview you for a job. I'm not looking for one he said. We still want to talk to you. I don't want to commute downtown Dallas. We have an office close to you. You won't work around my classes. Yes we will. Come in.

So he went in for an interview, the whole interview was them learning what he needed so he'd work for them. Then they said we'll let you know in a week. Hour later he had a job offer in his email.

Please give your son our very best wishes for every success on this leg of his journey.

Of course I Tweeted it for you and juiced both you and the TIS forum

Bestest.

Looking at github.com been using basecamp with springloop.com and now unfuddle.com.

Installed Eclispe with SVN and ant for localization.

Github is pretty interesting - I see it as an alternative (even though it isn't strictly so) to Sourceforge

Thanks Teddy,

Saw that. Social media saves much time when used wisely. They searched for programmers among their linkedin contacts, and their contacts connections. Out of those, they checked out code each programmer wrote through github and picked out who they wanted to hire. Didn't have to interview a bunch of people nor advertise.
