~~~Look Into Your Eyes~~~
I was online to renew my passport.
I answered question after question. Most were simple questions that were easily answered, but then it got to a hard one.
What color are your eyes.
I didn't know the answer! Were my eyes black or brown?
I honestly didn't know. I'm sure that I once did, but I certainly wouldn't bet a large sum of money on a guess right then. I couldn't remember what color my eyes were.
It reminded me of the lawyer cross-examining a witness in court and to prove that his memory was unreliable, he put his hand on the man's neck shielding his tie from his view and asked him, "What color tie do you have on?"
Needless to say, the witness didn't know. I hear you saying, "But your eye color isn't like that tie!" Well, actually it was, because I didn't know what color they were.
My wife was out of town with the kids visiting her parents. I was the only one in the house. So I did what any man would do who couldn't remember his eye color and didn't have anyone close who could look into his eyes and tell him.
I looked into the mirror.
I opened wide then squinted in the bathroom light.
It couldn't be.
I knew good and well that my eyes weren't a greenish turquoise, but in the light of the bathroom mirror staring deep into my eyes, that's sure what it looked like. But I just knew that wasn't right and I figured that it must be a trick of the light.
So I did the next thing that a rational but forgetful man would do.
I got a big flashlight.
It was a BIG flashlight. You know a big four D cell one like the police carry that can double as a Billy club if the need arises.
I turned it on and shined it into the mirror. That didn't work either; the glare was too strong bouncing from the glass so I turned it around and shined it directly into my eyes.
Could the bright light damage my eyes? I didn't think so, it wasn't like staring in the sun, it was a four D cell flashlight.
As the light illuminated my iris and the details of my eyes I saw clearly the color.
There are things that we don't see or know about ourselves.
There are things that we once knew but forgot, either due to memory lapse ...or because we deliberately wanted to forget that part of us.
There are things that we don't know about ourselves because the light isn't bright enough and once enlightenment blossoms we see clearly.
There are things others try to tell us about ourselves, but we shut our minds and spirits because we don't want to hear it.
There are things that we think about ourselves that simply aren't true because the enLIGHTenment is bad.
Have you looked into your eyes lately.
