Lamar Morgan 707-709-8605 | | I like to side with the underdog. I like the movie about "Seabiscuit" because here was a small horse that won races against bigger horses? How did that happen? I have no clue. If the movie was accurate - and I assume it was - the little horse beat the big one.
I liked all the "Rocky" movies. Why? Because they are all about beating the odds. Rocky lost his first bout against Appollo. But, that's not what was important. What's important was that Rocky "went the distance." The champ did not knock him out, which I suppose is what everyone expected to happen.
Situations are not always as they appear. Every year the Peachtree Road Race is run on July 4th - rain or shine. Thousands of people run that race. Some even run it in wheelchairs. And, while it may be important for some who the first person is to cross the finish line, that is not what the race is REALLY about. It's not really about who crosses the finish line first. It is instead about simply going the distance, crossing that finish line, receiving the coveted T-shirt. Having received the coveted T-shirt places you in a very special category. And, many clamor to be in that special category. That is why many folks in Atlanta run that race every year. It's not just a race for most people...form many it has become a family tradition.

Scott Wolpow | | Years ago, before diesel trains, there once was a little engine. It was usually ignored because ut was sued to just move cars around teh yard. Then the Big Circus Train broke down and the Little Engine was called into action. None of teh other trains thought he coudl do it. But he had full confidence in himself. He tried real hard and as he strained with teh laod he kept repeating this mantra "I think I can, I think I can". And you know what, he saved the circus and pulled that train over the mountain. Now what most peopel do nto know, this was based on atrues story, except the trains had no idea what was going since they are not alive. I small frieght yard train did push a stuck curcus train over a steep mountain and inspired the story for little kids. Private Reply to Scott Wolpow |
 Lamar Morgan 707-709-8605 | | Scott,
My sister has a nonprofit organization that works with hospitals that work with critically-ill children. It encourages them when facing life-threatening operations to leave a legacy behind. Everybody is going to die, but you can have leave something behind that uplifts others. What's amazing about emphasizing this perspective in tragic circumstances is that encouraging kids to leave something behind reinforces their will to live and not die prematurely. I do not understand why it works that way, but it often does.
