Thanks for keeping the forum going!Views: 199
Oct 12, 2009 10:50 pmThanks for keeping the forum going!#

Tim Flowers
You may have noticed that I've not been very active in the forum lately. It's not a lack of interest, but rather, an inability to focus on several things at once!

After months of struggling with the decision to buy a new car or restore the one I have, I decided to go with the restoration. I'm having a lot of fun with the work but it's been time consuming! I'm trying to do as much as possible while the weather is still nice. I've always enjoyed working on cars as a hobby; I just haven't done it in a while!

So I've been a little distracted but I'm still here and still monitoring the forum, even when I'm not posting. Thanks to all of you for keeping the dialog going!

I'll be back in full force as soon as the cool Fall weather forces me back inside.

You know there's a saying that people normally do not appreciate what they have?

Well, you people are so lucky to get snow. It is so beautiful & everything is so pure white after the snow...

I was in Colorado in Apr this year & experienced the snow there & it was just so lovely feeling the snowflakes on my face & seeing the surroundings all in white, just like the pictures in the story books.

LOL~! Am I just a kid at heart? :)

Veronica:

You probably didn't have to shovel it? LOL :) Or shoot off the road on black ice and have to be towed out, or get your car stuck in a snowbank. Or experience icy wind and much-below freezing temperatures along with the snow so that it feels like needles flying into your face. Or don't see the sun for days, sometimes weeks, on end.

I agree that it does look pretty - until it gets mixed with loads of sand and salt from the roads. Then it looks so depressing. And until it goes on month after month after long month.

Can you tell I don't like winter? The first snowfall is great, but after that, I'd gladly trade it for 75 degree temperatures and sunshine.

Have a wonderful day.

Hi Veronica

Some years back I went on 2 business trips
one to Taiwan and the other to Malaysia
flying out of Montana in January.
When I arrived still dressed how I left
I thought I'm in a pressure cooker...

"Well, you people are so lucky to get snow. It is so beautiful & everything is so pure white after the snow..."
I already have a bit of snow. not very much but there
is a lot more to expect in the upcoming month.
Come on over in January to Montana to experience
about 3-4 feet of snow. clean air and -20F....LOL

have fun
Chris

My thoughts exactly Diane!!! People who say they like snow don't usually have to live with it for months at a time.

Well I've NEVER seen snow!!! To me it's as real as the Chupacabras LOL!!! It would be nice to experience some day, but I can't see myself living in a cold place... my tropical skin can't handle that...

It's Oct 15, and our temperature today is: 82F !!!

I see other people beat me to Veronica's post!

LOL!

Yes so easy for someone to say "You dont appreciate the nice white fluffy snow" when THEY are not buried in it 6 months in a year!

Last year I drove a school bus.

It was the WORST snowfall we had in something like 30 years!!!
It snowed EVERY blasted day,day in and day out.

I constantly got stuck, had to shovel myself out,get up VERY early and get all the snow off the bus, warm it up etc...

All this took TIME and even TIME away from building my business!!

I was terribly frustrated.

I will NOT have to go through that THIS year thank goodness!

And for the record,I DO like winter. I LOVE the pretty white snow unlike most of my fellow Canadians.

I love it AS LONG AS....I dont have to drive around in it and getting STUCK all the time, flying on ice etc...!

I "appreciate" the BEAUTY of snow looking out of my window while nice and warm enjoying a nice hot cup of cocoa!

:)

But unless someone has suffered through six LONG months of it like last year its easy for them to say we dont "appreciate" it! LOL!

Deb to the "soon to be" frozen North!

Janice:

I'm never ready for it, but it comes anyway, whether I like it or not. I do like to look at it, too, when the snow is really fresh and soft, covering all the bare tree branches and the sun is shining on it making it look like sparkling diamonds. But that's only if I can look from the inside out. If I'm having a day off, I can look out and think, "Am I ever glad I don't have to go out!" But when I do have to go somewhere it's more like, "Oh, no! I wish I could stay home today." And one snowfall a year would be plenty to suit me even for looking. But, as Deb said, last year was really bad. One year back in the 70s there was so much snow that even trucking it away off the streets they didn't have enough room to dump it and I was snowed in (someone else's apartment) for three days. Not a pleasant experience.

You should all move to North Carolina! We have 4 distinct seasons:

Spring, when everything turns green and flowers bloom. Gardens begin.

Summer, which can be oppressively hot some years, up to 100 degrees with almost 100% humidity and no rain for months. You walk outdoors and immediately sweat through your clothes! But this past summer was mild; it rarely got over 90 degrees.

Fall, when the leaves turn bright orange and red, daytime temperatures average 60 degrees and evening temps drop as low as 35 degrees. That's the time for festivals and the state fair!

Winter, sometimes mild, sometimes wild! I've seen snow up to 14 inches deep, but it melts away within a week. Most winters we see 4 to 6 inches at least once. The worst is when we have ice storms, knocking out power for days and making roads treacherous.

But the variety is great, overall. Other than the summer heat, no one weather condition sticks around very long.

Sorry Tim I HATE extreme humidity month after month after month!!!

I know all about your extreme heat waves there. My sponser lives down there and I heard all about it last summer...some people died from the heat wow.

I was out tonight and seen our FIRST few flakes of snow flurries!

sigh...

We have four seasons also. Summers in the 90's and 100's but humidity is low. I hate the winters. The first snow fall is so pretty but then it never goes away for at least 4 months. All you see is white or dirty white on the roads and your car is never clean for at least four months. Our garage and cars are always full of sand because of all the sand on the roads. I also travel to the Seattle area quite often and have to go over a mountain pass which is pretty nerve wracking in the winter. Geez, it hasn't snowed here yet and I am already depressed!

Good luck with your furnace Jeff...not a good time to be without one.

Furnace issue resolved with a new thermostat. This is an old farm house so we have pleanty of places for cold air to sneak in. Would like to lower a big plastic bubble over it every winter to keep heating issues at bay.

Maybe that's a new business Idea...Stay warm and cozy all winter with your House Bubble! Upgrade it with a Green house environmental control and keep a garden in the dead of winter. Chuck Bartok Would like that so he could grow Tomatoes all winter!

Have a great Friday!

Hi Jeff!

Its usually is something simple and cheap like a thermostat.

Try having your furnace go on the blink in MINUS 20 BELOW WEATHER with cold wind chill!

Happened to me last year!

Murphys Law...the furnace breaks down on the COLDEST day of the year!

Its aint cold yet!

This is nothing.

Its still Fall.

Better it breaks now than in Janaury!

LOL

OK! Seems to me it is pretty unanimous that the snow is pretty to look at but it can be a headache & extremely frustrating to have to live with it...

Maybe so! Then I should consider myself lucky that I do not have to shovel it, or slip on it or have the car stuck!

So it is fortunate that I get to visit when it is snowing & enjoy it without having to go through all the frustrations of living with it... LOL

Shall be counting my blessings then! :)

Though it is hot & humid here practically all year round.

If only we could have spring or autumn throughout the year?

I like Four Seasons also. I grew up in New York State and We use to have pretty bad winters up there. But it was good Sledding and Bobsledding. Then I was in the Military for 13 years then settled in Maryland. Maryland usually has four seasons although it can change at anytime.

I don't really like to drive in it or walk in it. But it does clear out all the Pollen and Toxins in the air when it gets cold.

We are still in Fall here in Maryland. We had 2 days of rain so far and suppose to have 2 more days until Monday Morning.

Have a Great Fall and Winter.
