Funny isn't it, the different practices and standards McDonalds and Burger King adopt at different places ?

In Singapore supply of ketchups, salt and pepper and serviettes is strictly regulated by the counter salesmen at Burger King. Can I have some salt and pepper please ? I usually get a packet each - now these are about less-than-a-gram packets, which when opened, half the pepper would be lost in the opening process. So I always have to say - 2 salt and 3 pepper please !

McDonalds, Singapore and even Malaysia does it more gracefully. They have dispensers for ketchup , chilli sauce and serviettes and of course salt and pepper in a corner.

McDonalds in Japan does not provide salt and pepper in those little packets. On my couple of visits to Kyoto in the recent past, when I requested for salt and pepper, the staff produced a rather large mixture of salt and pepper in a paper bag from the kitchen.

And then Burger King in London provides only salt. From the look on their faces, it appeared to me that they had never heard of a commodity called pepper.

Recently I was in Amsterdam where I ordered a a McDonalds chicken meal. I was given a packet each of mayo and ketchup. When I asked for more ketchup, I was told itvwas a regulated commodity and that each extra packet was chargeable at 45 cents.

I guess, the only joint that has a very uniform practice the world over is Subway. Oh, I do love their vege delights with sweet onion sauce.

Cheers !
