Here are some lesser known wine areas to visit http://www.cnn.com/2009/TRAVEL/getaways/09/01/wine.drives/index.html#cnnSTCText
We traveled through NY one summer vacation and stopped at the NY wine vineyards. Its a very pretty area in East New York State along the Hudson River http://www.hudsonriver.com/winetour.htm
In Hungary I traveled to Eger Here is a photo of the center of town and the Senator Hotel were we stayed http://hungary.egerhotels.com/hotel-gallery.php?HID=2002&LID=2
It was fun once you arrive you can walk everywhere. There are over 100 caves where wine is made, people were stumping in bare feet on grapes, you can take your own bottle and buy the wine in the small caves or buy samples to taste (take your own cup), there is a fort you can explore and learn how the Hungarians fought off the Truks with boiling Goulash.
Where is wine made near you?
