The Jewish month previous was also to do originally with harvests, and now in India because the harvest is later. Though the celebrations begin two days prior and end two days after that date.
It celebrates the new season at the end of the monsoon. It is particularly associated with Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, and the celebration of victory of good over evil.
So I wish all our many Indian brother and sisters a Happy and Prosperous New Year, and invite them to share any interesting experiences they occurred during this time and any extra insights to this time.
Namaste.
