Sometimes the truth is more amazing than fiction. A woman from a little village in Scotland makes her way to a talent show in Britain. She's short, swatty, over 40, unemployed and says she's never been kissed. But, she has a dream. Her dream is to become a professional singer. Everybody judges this woman by her appearance. She's not physically attractive. Therefore, she couldn't possibly have a good singing voice. (Why should physical appearance matter so far as the ability to sing? Why should we even think that?)

But then, the music begins to play. This woman begins to sing. As you watch the video you see the expression on people's face change. The next thing you know everyone in the auditorium is standing to their feet and cheering this woman. The woman has just started to sing and everyone is applauding. Her singing is so incredible. How can that be? She's obviously not "cover girl" material.

Within a month, thanks to TV and Youtube, Susan Boyle - a woman who refused to give up on her dream to be a professional singer - has captured the admiration of the entire world. This true story is not just about music. It's about not giving up...and connecting with people WHO CARE! Watch this video and see "the magic" happen.

And, one more thing. Susan Boyle recently shot a photo spread from Harpers Magazine and recorded her first record album. Whoever said dreams cannot come true was mistaken. Just ask Susan Boyle.

Scott,

You are going to compare an inspiring true-life story about a little Scottish woman that is unfolding before your very eyes to an O.Henry short story that is depressing? I fail to see the connection.

People around the world are thrilled about what is happening to Susan Boyle - and you should be too!

No, I am talking about being selective about what inspires. What about all those who tried, failed and still keep trying.

Like the Energizer Bunny...
just keeps going and going and going...

I love Susan Boyle's story and know several that hit closer
to home too. There is inspiration everywhere, in each
sunrise, if you look for it.

Susan Boyle is a wonderful example of why we should stay true to our dreams.

Not everyone aspires to be rich and famous and this does not diminish the value of their aspirations. What Susan gives us all is a message of hope and faith. Regardless of age, culture, race, or colour; we can achieve anything our hearts desire.

Lindsay,

Absolutely! You hit the nail on the head. This woman admits to singing in public since she was 12 years old. Nobody noticed this woman had tremendous talent all during her young life? For whatever reason the people who saw her did not care. Regardless of her size, regardless of her age, regardless of the death of her own mother, she did not give up on her dream.

She's no beauty queen. But, guess what? She's on the cover of Harper's Magazine. Here's a woman who publicly says she has never been kissed. All of a sudden the whole world has fallen in love with this little Scottish gal. It's amazing! How can you not root for this woman?

What has happened to Susan Boyle is a wake-up call to the world. And, I think much of the world is figuring it out. And, believe me, it's about time! This is an important message for every person who is still breathing.

Lamar

We are experiencing some very exciting times. Sometimes it is very challenging, but we have so many opportunities to realize our dreams and make our lives and the world around us a little better. Susan, and others the her, give us courage and belief. We can all make a difference, albeit a small one.

Lindsay,

Yes, we can all make a difference. That is why I am such a big proponent of mutual collaboration. It really does not matter what form you choose - a newspaper ad or a to-do-list board, for example. What matter is that you do it "together." Doing it together means you can save money. Doing it together means you have the chance of benefiting from someonelse's expertise.

If you are a member of this network and going about doing everything you need done all by yourself, you are definitely working hard...but are you working smart? Why not reach out to Ryzers and ask for help? You may be surprised by what you are able to accomplish through a mutual collaboration of effort.
