Susan,
I just returned from Greensburg, KS and though, it may not be among the "prettiest" towns, it is known as the "most environmentally friendly town in the nation". I found the wind farms in the area to be beautiful. As they say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". You can see some of the pics on my blog - http://www.altsolarandwind.com or google Greensburg.

Hello Susan,

River towns have their unique charm. Nestled between rolling cliffs and the Mississippi, Stillwater gives every visitor a chance to step back in time to enjoy a place that offers an "old west" flavor mixed with the comtemporary.

One of the things Stillwater is famous for is starting as a "lumber town." The rich and aristocratic moved there to take advantage of the money to be made shipping lumber and other goods on the Mississippi, settling and building huge, Victorian-style homes. Some were not as fortunate as others, ending up spending time in the State Prison located just west of town. Jesse James was one of those unfortunate. The prison, along with many of the Victorian-style homes still exists today, reminding visitors of a time when wealth and lawlessness ran equally through the town.

Besides a boat ride on the Mississippi, there are two other exciting ways to explore Stillwater. First, take a ride on the "Zephyr" passenger train, listening to music hits from the "Big Band" era and before, dining on great food, and a wonderful view of the countryside that only a train can provide. If a train ride isn't for you, try a hot-air ballon ride over Stillwater, especially in the Fall.

Whatever you come to Stillwater for, whether it is for the big Fourth of July celebration every year, for a romantic get-a-way to one of the many Bed and Breakfasts, or just for a day by the river, you'll find yourself wrapped in the special warmth of this town, a place you'll want to visit again. If you are in Minnesota, treat yourself and your family or friends to a visit to Stillwater.

All the Best,
David
