Hey Folks.

With Kurts new adventure into Ebay sales, it occurs to me that we SHOULD have a place
for our REGULAR posters to let us know what they are up to, even if it happens to be sales.

This would amount to ADs being posted, which we DO NOT WANT from outside sources.
However, if you are a regular poster at ABHP (not a lurker) I'd like to have a place or a rule
whereby you MAY be able to let us all know what you are up to with new business
ventures or new products.

Kurt did it right with how he approached the group with his venture into Ebay sales. IF
someone we did not know (through posting here at ABHP) posted about their Ebay sales, it
would have been deleted, toot-sweet! No questions asked.

No long ago Scott mentioned that some folks do advertise in a veiled manner here (at
ABHP). Yes, we know that. It's allowed WHEN it pertains to a subject we are discussing
and/or by regular posters who CONTRIBUTE on a regular basis in this network forum. I do
it myself from time to time. But I also assume everyone knows what I do anyhowsen, right?

I really don't want to assign a "day" to post ads, as that is when people come out of the
woodwork to place advertisements. People that we never know are here, show up on those
"AD" days.

What I'd really like to do is possibly have an Ebay thread AND a random time to post ads.
ADs would be allowed by REGULAR MEMBER POSTERS ONLY. Any ADs posted on a
designated AD day (one day only, once in awhile) who does not post on a regular basis at
ABHP, those ad's will go away, silently. There will not need to be any discussion about
those. You folks who would like to post an AD on those days, will have to start commenting
and throwing in your .02 worth throughout the month, if you want to take advantage of a time
when AD's might be allowed.

I know one of the draws here at ABHP is that we don't allow blatant AD's to be posted.
However, it would be nice to see what our regular members are up to with sales and what
they might have to offer US. I buy everything online, shop online almost daily, and where
else would I go, but here, at my own network to shop for items in which I might be interested.

BJ and I have been tossing this idea around (on the phone) but I do not want to change the
basics for what we do here. In fact, I would not change the Home page rules to make way
for this new addition. It would be regular members who will be allowed to take advanrage of
this addition anyhowsen.

I need some OH!pinions on this subject.
What DO YOU think?

Eileen,
A good Idea would be to make the thread Sticky and open to comments to draw interest. Also in order to post an "AD", you would be required to participate in 3 discussions (Non-Ad Related) per week. I did this with my Old Network and it worked very well. These are only suggestions of course but it helps you maintain control.

BTW, How are you coming with the PLF WSA.

Well...I don't know if I can be classified as a "lurker" or not. Don't know if I have posted enough to be considered a "regular" but I am thinking in these hard times, it might just help to make a difference in the life of the person that is posting. I don't think that anyone would be posting just because it's that time of the day.

If there are people who have opportunities and services that they want to promote(on a one day basis), my feeling is that they ought to be given that opportunity. It kind of takes away the "normalness" of the page and could help someone in their plight to better themselves. "I'm just saying!" :)

I would make it one day a week where Regular Posters can let us know what's happening in their World. You Could Title it:

"What in the The World are The VIP Members up to"

You could make the topic sticky Then it wouldn't attract regular People who would Post Blatant Ads. Only the regular Posters.

Just my 2 cents worth

You could make it any day of the week you want to.

Eileen,

Here is what I recommend. Create a "Sticky Ad Thread." Allow folks to post to that one thread all week long. But, every Sunday, delete the thread and start a new one. By so doing, you have fresh content every week - not cumulative content. Make it known that you do not feedback on the sticky thread. You simply want ads. For feedback, people need to contact the poster of the ad via private message. Therefore, the thread is entirely nothing but ads. If someone posts a question to any ad, delete it. Also, you do not want repeat ads promoting the exact same service. If repeat ads for the same service do indeed get posted during the week, they need to be deleted. If you demand obedience to play in this sandbox, I believe your audience will behave.

Lamar,
People will not read the Ads if you simply have Ads posted in the thread, Chris in "Serious MLM" is discovering this now. I tried this in E.A.S.Y., My old Network, then when I opened it up to debate, interest rose to a much higher level.

Ads is always going to be a "sticky" subject (pun intended) whether we make it that way, or not.

I'm open to debate on how we pull this off, but I've seen other networks have just a lot of darn "ad" noise and lots of zeros next to topic replies (AND views), and those networks are stagnant as all get-out (some long dead).

I think it would require some rules and I am liking Eileen's & Richard's ideas the best, so far.

This is suppose to be about Regular People or Members who post Content to have a thread to come n and post what it is they are up to. No necessarily Ads for their Business it might be something about their Lives or an award they got or just what thery are up to. Not necessarily Ads. If they happen to post an AD this is where the VIP Members would post the ADS and also info abut their Lives.

For the record, I did not intend my eBay thread to be an ad of any sort. I was simply exploring how to use eBay to supplement my business, and included links to a few of my auctions in order to solicit help in improving them. (My first batch of auctions did poorly, aside from those items Eileen was kind enough to purchase.)

Most of the posters here are really pretty good at incorporating promotions for their businesses into the ordinary give-and-take of discussions. Yes, there are some personality clashes, but most of the "ads" are not very blatant.

I don't see any need for an Ad Thread.

Hey Kurt.

Yes, I do know you were asking for help in that Ebay
thread. However, when you posted the links that lead to
the auctions, I was sucked in like it was a vacuum cleaner...
I begin in August thinking about Christmas and what I will
purchase for all my grand-sugars,nieces/nephews and grand
nieces/nephews. It is a two month (at least) long process
as I need to have most of the shopping done by Thanksgiving.

Everything I look at this month will be considered for a
Christmas gift to someone in my family or for a friend.
Back on topic...

Thanks to everyone for putting in your .02 worth. I've
been considering this for some time. It is incentive for
new members to become active if only regular posters are
allowed to place ADs or tell us what their new projects
entail. Sometimes talking about a project can SOUND like
an AD for your services, even though it's not intended to
be an AD.

I'd hate having good active members jumping off our wagon
because there were too many Ad's posted, you know?

I'll still be checking on opinions posted here for a
while. Let me think on this, confer with our moderators
and I'll post our final decision a bit later, probably next
week sometime.

Eileen,

It is only one sticky thread and it changes every week. By change, I mean the thread actually gets deleted - not simply pushed down the list. The thread is GONE after seven days. Then, a new thread for the same purpose is given life. This is a very different approach compared to what you have on other networks.

Why are we here on this network? I am here to business network. I welcome any opportunity that helps facilitate that end. This appears to be one of them. Let's give it a trial run and see what happens.

Although, Not always to active in many of the networks. I guess most of you would consider me a lurker. LoL, but from the posts here I do read, I've noticed which members are active. So, I'm going to go ahead with my .02 for Eileen.

I'm not so sure that ABHP is in need of such a place, but a lot of people are here in their minds they are still thinking about what they are doing then they may see a subject on something related to which they are involved and happen to explain and throw a link to their current project or experience. So is this spam? In my opinion, NO. This is networking they are simply sharing their personal experience on the current subject. Most of the members here are really good with posting and staying with in a subject. If they happen to throw a link up, and I am reading the subject yes I do review it as long as the link is related to the subject. I think it's more interesting and I think that's what most of us are here for.

So if there were to be a thread sticky or not. I would provide a link to it on the network home page and describe what it is for.

So as for the topic I am in agreement with Richard's topic
("What in the The World are The VIP Members up to")

This will provide some good reading on what each member is up to at present. Let members post whenever they want though.

I have an advertisement thread on Fridays and I only permit one advertisement from each member. So I delete and keep it moderated by deleting their previous post.

I think that would apply here too. Just simply delete the previous post of the member.

If you get a member that just wants to put a one liner and a link. I would delete that one as well. If the member isn't going to take the time to at least tell everyone about it, it isn't worth the read or look.

So your ABHP members blog would contain what your members are here are up to or have worked on. As well as shopping interests. Or Ebay stuff. What ever, everyone is up to.

Most Members overlook advertisement threads, but when there also may be something to learn about someone else people may give it a look.

So the final additional rule for this thread only would be NO conversation. If you feel the need to talk about it you would have to post a new topic provide a link to the thread in question then start a new conversation about it. This turns it not into an advertisement but an actual conversation in a different thread, such as an interview of type. But I don't see this happening much either. Most members would probably use Personal Message options at this point, Especially if it was something that they wanted to buy from a member.

These types of shopping and networking threads are more popular because your member here know each other or feel safer because they've heard from the member more.

My Post in Review
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1.) Create a thread called (What in the The World are The VIP Members up to) or (ABHP Members blogs).
2.) 1 Post per person.
3.) Not a conversational thread.
4.) Posts must contain very descriptive information on what they are doing, not just one liners.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

There is my .02 Eileen!

Jim
