Sensible Fool | | Already we are facing problems because of the Katchath Theevu and now SL is eying the Andaman Islands.....
http://www.dailynews.lk/2009/11/05/news51.asp
Sri Lanka to merge with Andaman Islands Irangika Range and Sandasen Marasinghe Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama told Parliament that the Indian owned Andaman Islands will come within the area that Sri Lanka hopes to make a claim to as part of its sea bed rights, to the UN Commission on the limits of the continental shelf.
The Minister said that the Government will discuss with India on this issue before making the final submissions to the UN Commission.
The Minister was responding to a question raised by UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake about Sri Lanka’s claim for its sea bed rights.
He said that Sri Lanka’s legal continental shelf submission is approximately around 25 times the size of the country’s land mass (1,725,800 square kilometres of the sea bed area).
However, the precise outer limit will be determined on the basis of technical and scientific data provided in Sri Lanka’s submission to the UN Commission.
He said that Sri Lanka’s submission is likely to be taken up for consideration by the Commission around 2025.
The Minister also said that many State parties including Sri Lanka has expressed dissatisfaction at the long delay in the scheduling of the UN Commission hearing. Private Reply to Sensible Fool |

SOEB FATEHI | | The democratically elected government in Sri Lanka is raising the issues with the democratically elected Indian Government transparently through diplomatic channels and then also seeking an opportunity to discuss the matter with the United Nations wherein they are members along with India.
I do not believe that India would wish to surrender its territorial sovereignity to any neighbor or any other country.
I do appreciate any process of dialog adopted by both the neighbors. It helps to prevent outside interference, insurgency and infiltration and serves to maintain world peace.

Muralidharan Bashyam | | Mr. Soeb
It was India who aided sriankan in combating the LTTE in the isle.
It was India who created Bangaladesh,
It was India who gave a separated nation to Islamic country the so called Pakistan.
It was India who gives a lot of trade opportunity to China and Chinese products.
Every body stabs us, But all they stab from us behind.
Atleast the present government should realize now and wake up because we are surrounded by enemies. All the enemies of us are friends to each other.
If you go back to History and see about Lemuria continent, it was a large land space which was submeged by sea several centuries back. the present piece of land is so called our southern India. Could India now claim that Srilanka is part of India as per the Lemuria concept?
Even Pakistan was once a democratic country raising that Kashmir belongs to them? So would we accept their rights.
The Srilanka's claim must be due to the pressure of China which is helping the Srilanka in rebuilding the country.
My opinion is India should not at all hear what was raised. There is no need of dialog or discussion or summit on this Srilanka's scream. Private Reply to Muralidharan Bashyam |

padmanabhan ramasubban | | I agree with MB.I mentioned earlier that all arms miltary support logistics ,strategical guidance to fight and kill LTTE was provided by China.
The territorial rights claim is also at the instigatuon of china.
China -pakistan - Srilanka are friends of china and vice versa.
All democratically elected governments act in most undemocratic fashion making frivolous claims.
China is a bigger threat to India than pak or lanka.
The balance of power is slowly getting tilted towards China.
India better be wary of chinese period
Anyone wanting proof can go and hunt for it.

 SOEB FATEHI | | I have faith in dialog and democracy . . . . I refrain from weakening processes I believe in . . . . I work hard to strengthen the forces that support what I trust . . . .
If I do not agree with something i exercise a choice . . . . either reconcile or resist . . . . in parliamentary tradition . . . .
