Manoj Vijayan | | Hi all Does anyone on the list know where to get old, traditional or handmade Indian playing dice (for board games)? For e.g. stick dice? A dice collector from Sweden has asked me so please let me know if you have any sources in Bangalore. Cheers Manoj Private Reply to Manoj Vijayan |

Usha Shetty | | Hi Manoj,
Please check a store called "Kavade" for traditional Indian games on Seshadripuram 1st Main Road (across the road from and near Fortis Hospital). Run by Sreeranjini 9980022820
"Sutradhar" in Indira Nagar 2nd stage, 17th A Cross, 7th Main (behind CMH Road) has educational material for children, including traditional Indian games.
There's supposed to be another place for traditional Indian games on 17th cross Malleshwaram between 5th & 7th Mains?? - sketchy info!!!
You should find the first two on the net too.
all the best, usha Private Reply to Usha Shetty |

Rajan Urs | | Yes, It should be available in Mysore. The famous game of pagade is played with the long dice...I think it is made from cattle horn.
we used to play it often at home when I was young. A very challenging game which requires both luck and a sharp mind to defeat the opponent. Private Reply to Rajan Urs |

Usha Shetty | | Manoj - The malleshwaram shop on 17th cross- From the 4th main intersection 100 mts, building is Bhooma, shop is kamalini. Something to do with the Crafts council
Shyam - Ask at a gurudwara perhaps about the Nihang swords. For the others you could get leads from antique shops & dealers, markets like Chor Bazaar in Bombay & Shivajinagar - Bamboo Bazaar in Bangalore.
Alternately, akharas anywhere in North India for the mace. Also, for Kerala swords, maybe a kalaripayattu training centre like the one here in wilson garden - attakalari - they might have some leads. Just curious - what for? Private Reply to Usha Shetty |

Shyam Kumar Mangayil | | No dont worry , you wont have to inform police or intel ops.My intentions are clean - just for the thrill and artistic satisfaction I get by possessing it - collector's rationale. Private Reply to Shyam Kumar Mangayil |

Landmark in Forum has your stuff. They have a seperate section for this. There is a litte kiddies section ajdacent to the stairs/Escalator between the floors.
You will find all sorts of traditional games there.
While on your way out you could also visit, Firangi Paani.. ;)

Usha Shetty | | Landmark has wooden toys & traditional games made by a company in Madras under the name Kreeda, as well as some other manufacturers in that section Sam mentioned. Not sure if they will have only dice. Private Reply to Usha Shetty |
