Hi All,

Apologies for posting this on ryze.

I just wanted this post in public interest.

Aamir, who is an employee of HP was robbed in HSR Layout sector -6 wednesday night.

It was only 7:20 P.M. and he was returning home as usual. As soon as he entered the lane, which leads to his house, he found 3 men standing near a transformer. He ignored them and kept moving towards his house when all of a sudden they attacked him and took away his Laptop, mobile and wallet on gun point.

He ran to save his life and they followed him till his house. They turned back only when he shouted for help on reaching the house.

There was one room mate in the house at that time. They both took the bike from the room and went to Madiwala police station. They found the robbers still standing near the lane. Can you imagine the courage of the robbers?

Police tried to trace the robbers with the help of Aamir's cell phone, which was not switched off by the robbers but for no results.

I am posting this mail, so that all the ryze members come to know about the incident and take precautionary measures. We all normally work till 8 or 9 P.M. and may be more than that. People going by 8:15 or 9:15 bus should take more precaution.

For people living in HSR Layout I would like to tell the exact location also, so that they can have a better idea of the spot and take precaution.

Exact location:

15th A Cross,

9th Main,

Sector -6

HSR Layout.

Lane behind Lawrence school, near Sobha super market.

Regards,

Sandeep

This is scary stuff as even I work for HP and happened to meet the room mate who is part of HP as well who incidentally did not come to work that day and he recounted the incident when I met him yesterday.

This has suddenly started happening like an epidemic in Bangalore. I think we should start something like a citizens patrol or a neighbourhood watch like we have in Delhi. While it may not check crime rate but certainly acts as a deterrant.

Hi, I stay at HSR Layout Sector-1 and the recent spate of techies being robbed is scary for sure. I believe that inspite of the police nakabandhi and patrolling, such incidents show no sign of abating.

I believe in empowering ourself, instead of depending on the police very much. We do have Gym, Yoga, meditation and other activities in most of the S/W Biggies place. In a similar line, the Companies should come up with regular training camps where in they can have some inhouse martial artists in Karate, Taekwondo, Judo etc who can coach the employees and turn them from soft targets into some formidable opponent.

These goons are basically cowards who cannot earn a few rupees by honest work and thrive on spreading fear and strong arm tactics. With better training we give them back in same measure for their dastardly act.

For smaller companies (like where I work) where we do not have such facilities, we can group up areawise (like HSR layout or jayanagar) at a club or a play ground and see if we can get a Martial Artist who can train us in Martial arts or thinking further, we can enrol with some existing Martial arts schools and learn how to defend ourself. Half and hour to an hour a day should do great to the confidence and toughness of our young generation and take on these hoodlums headon.

we have seen generally it is 2 or max 3 members who form a gang to rob the public. while the leader of the gang may be a small time toughie, still the other 2 are there may be to help him out and may not be really toughies at all. A reasonably trained person should be able to tackle these people. and remember they too do have fear and are scared. it is just who is more scared that makes a difference.

I can understand if an old lady of over 60 years is chain snatched. She is powerless. But a young techie aged 25 years or so? Powerless as of now. Yes. but should'nt be so in future.

Ashok

Sorry Ashok, to disagree, but I guess this idea is not just far fetched but a tad too risky. There is a sea of difference in learning and application and we are already at battle.

Pepper sprays are a good self defense mechanism. The product is very much available in the market, firms might also like to give sprays away to executives working late.

Just a suggestion, no warrantees ;))

P.S. On a lighter vein (to ease the fear factor, hopefully), Harrison Ford once said he'd run away from a scene of assault (in real life, of course)

cheer up!
