Since joining this network, I have systematically visited the Ryze pages of members here and after reading their profile, I check when they joined Ryze and how many hits they have to their Home Page.
Why do some members have so few hits to their page despite a lengthy membership?
The answer is simple:
* They are lurkers and prefer to remain in the background * They don't log on frequently enough
A busy Ryze page can be hit 200 - 300 times a month, while a non active member might pull 1 hit every few days. Why should this matter? Because every time someone reads your profile, your message has reached one more person! Isn't that why you joined Ryze?
Time is an issue for everyone, but we won't gain unless we give and in this case, 'giving' is posting to other people's Guest Books and to the various networks.
Make yourself visible! There are over 330,000 people here on Ryze - how will anyone know that you are there, if you are not visible?
Something else to consider, is that some networks (B2B Networking is one of them) are public. This means that whatever you say on that network can be seen by the entire world! Ladies, this is FREE advertising!
Now, I am not advocating that you blast every network with your advertisement - don't you dare!, but pick a subject in which you feel comfortable and start posting to set yourself up as an expert!
Go ahead - Google my name and you'll probably find that there are about 3 pages of articles, posts etc by me. THIS is how you gain exposure! If the articles are good and frequent, and someone does a search on that keyword, your name WILL come up, because the spiders will recognize that your NAME appears so frequently.
Doesn't that make sense?
"But there are people who know much more than me in that area of expertise".
HELLOOOOooooo? Have you read some of the garbage that is on the Internet these days? You only have to know 10% more than your readers to make a name for yourself! Take the 'Dummies' range of books..... when I picked up DOS for Dummies, years back, I was appalled at how little the author knew about the subject and some of his information wasn't correct, but he sold millions of books. Why? Because he was one step ahead of those who bought them! Look what happened to the 'Dummies' books.... we got Golf for Dummies, Sex for Dummies, QuickBooks for Dummies, Interior Design for Dummies, and so on. The author of that first book saw a market - people who were at the very starting stage of a subject and needed very basic instruction and he niched himself. From there, he exploited his niche by simply changing the titles and repeating the process in another area!
So, if you are selling candles - and so are thousands of others - start posting information about candles... the history of candles... the first known wax candle ever made ... how to make candles ... candle colorants ... what each color means (I know that burning green candles is supposed to attract money but burning candles in an office repels customers!!) ... suitable containers for candles ... how to package candles for shipping.....
Should I go on?
Don't compete with the competition - ELIMINATE them by branding yourself as an expert in your chosen field and post topics of interest to every board, every blog that you can find. Start your own blog (you can do this at no cost at Blogger.com). The more people see your name, the more branded you will become and viewers will believe that you are the ONLY person to contact for that product.
Doing this will certainly attract people to you and save you some of the effort of knocking yourself out trying to find business!
So, ..... let's see some posting and some Guest Book entries, huh?

How do you see how many hits one has to one's page?
Your post is wonderful. Great information. Many years ago, someone suggested I write how to articles. I listened. One article I wrote was about passwording our children (I'll post it at the end of this message). To this day I still emails from folks telling me how much they enjoyed this article. I am not even anywhere near a parenting expert, but this one article on a parenting techinique that worked for me has reached thousands of others.
Thanks for posting such great information.

Protect Your Child With A Password
When we think of password protection, we think of bank accounts, computers, or even voice mail phone systems.
Our children are equally precious to us and need our protection. But how do we protect them?
When my kids were small we established a password, or codeword that only they and I knew. We chose a word very familiar to them, something they could remember, yet not something easily guessed by an outsider.
In the car we would roleplay many situations that might happen and how my children could respond. It was very important that if anyone other than I was going to pick them up at school or from a sports practice or even a girl scout meeting, this person must know our password.
If the person did not know the password, then my children were not to get in their car under any circumstances. There were no exceptions to this rule. Once you start making exceptions young children become confused. Their mother, their father, and their grandmother knew their password and often discussed it with them.
I know our system worked, because one day after her brownie meeting, a friend of mine offered to drive my daughter home, knowing I was home not feeling well. My daughter asked this adult woman if she knew the password. Of course the woman did not. My daughter comfortably looked at her and told her she could not get in the car with her.
I have never been more proud of this very precious little girl.

If you go to your Ryze page, Just below your name, in the top left part of the screen, you will find the number of hits to your page.
Although my response (below) is a little off-topic, I must say that I love your idea of passwording your children. Very clever and very wise. I hope that you post this advice to every parenting network!
Glad that you're enjoying the posts!

I seem to always follow Althea in her ideas, I guess she is just a bit quicker on the draw than this old bird. I have been on Ryze for well over 2 yrs and I have noticed many things. I have tried to change some peoples thinking about Ryze several times and in different ways, some successful, others well we will see.
I consider myself to be a trail blazer, especially here in Ryze. I do not have much time anymore since my business has picked up, but when I post, I feel it has some meat to it.
As for Althea's comments on the candles sales, yeah there are alot of people selling candles,so what... I know many many candle sales people here on Ryze, most are with different companies and some just simply make their own. That's wonderful, candles will never go out of style and they are almost always burned away, so they are consumable! That means repeat sales if your customers like your products!!
Diversify yourself from the pack, make it your own...brand yourself so your customers can see your product from the pack.
Take my business for example, I actually have two sides to it so we will just speak of the Salt products. For example,if you were to Yahoo or Google in some key words like salt lamps or Bath Salts, you come up with about...and I kid you not...2,444,000 hits for Bath salts alone!!! OMG, why even get into that market? Niche!!!
If you searched for Himalayan Bath Salts you narrow that to just 44,500 hits and that significantly reduces my competition. Now remove all the e-bay people, and those part timers selling ones and two of everything, and it is more like 15 actual web sites selling the Himalayan Products and I am three of those 15!!
Out of those 15 only 5 sell Sole' (A salt solution taken in a glass of water to deliver 84 minerals and trace elements). Only I sell it in a ready to add water condition..meaning, I promote it in a pint jar with 4oz of the salt rocks already for water to be added once you get it at home.
Everyone else just sells the rocks in a 2 lbs bag for $17-25 dollars USD. I sell the Pint jar as a tester, for the people not familiar with it, sort of a test run and it sells for $8.00 and I blow them out the door constantly!
Once my customer gets a jar and makes the Sole' and tries it, they either order more of them, or go for the 2 lbs. bag of stones to continue making it themselves.
Another tip, use Ryze to sell your products!!!! Yes use Ryze to sell your products...did you get that? 99% or more of the Ryzer members do not actively sell on their pages! Why is that? With over 330,000 potential customers... why not? I understand some can not as they do not own their company or make their own products and that is cool too. But mostly the reason is.....
Because they did not know they could!!!!!! If anyone comes to either of my ryze pages, yes I have more than one,and they are linked back and forth to each other. I am willing to show you how I set them up and it is pretty easy to do. After all, if this old Indian can do it anyone can. Heck I was "allowed" to graduate HS.
Ok, I am not trying to sell you on my products here, just using an example...it is just that I am the only example I know of....well that is not true I inspired Robert Harrington to redo his page and it is a lovely page too. Do a people search on ryze members and see for yourself.
Let's use our tools and potential here and stop making Ryze just a community of business friends....it is a market!
Best Wishes,

That 330,000 figure has risen to over 400,000 Ryze members now!
And they say that Ryze is losing members to other networks? Hmmm.... maybe, but I am happy that the BEST ARE HERE!
:)

I had heard rumors lately about networks like Ryze dying off to podcasters and bloggers and such, but I did not believe it so much. Those areas may be increasing in membership, however more and more people are going online.
One thing I did notice just this week while I was doing a ryze search. I clicked on holistic to see how many hits I could get and out of say the first 100 people who listed holistic as an interest, only 4 yes only four had working PM's and GB's.
Now, maybe you can help me here Althea, but why would a member not turn them on? Of course this opens the door for debate on upgrades, many of the members had upgraded accounts and that effectively eliminates contact from us free members. I feel this is a mistake on the Ryze Staff part, separating the paid members from the free members...it is that sort of thing that is indeed killing off Adlandpro.
I would like to see everyone be able to communicate be it by PM or at least GB entries. There are at least 96 members interested in what I do that I can not get in touch with for what ever reason.
Best Wishes to all,

It is so true. When I first joined ryze and visited pages, I was so amazed to see some who had thousands of hits, I wondered how on earth did they achieve this. Out of the many I did visit and try to network with, only Ally was the one to actually respond and reach out to me, which truly disappointed me at first.
During the talks we have had via PM, email and on the phone, the one thing that she always conveyed to me was her undying compassion and true understanding of whatever a person was going thru, regardless of what she was facing. She ex that she helped whenever she could, that she had no idea that her page had grown and grown, because she was so busy about ryze, making friends, helping other's connect, so on that it blew her mind by the amount of hit's she had/has accumulated.
I can tell you myself, just this past year alone, we have almost tripled our hits and I can attest that by networking more, posting more, becoming more visible on and off ryze, has definitely been one reason why. Another reason, I revamped the entire teammom page to be that of just networking within ryze and moving our businesses to a seperate page. This way the primary focus when someone visits our teammom page is that of networking and exposing our visitors to their fellow ryzers thru the various ways we have come up with and created.
I have also made some great friendships this way, found some great deals and discounts on stuff needed, found 2 great gals to do my banners, buttons and so on, 3 new businesses that I am joining/joined, the list is endless. All this just for being active, even a few minutes a day here!
Thank you so much Althea for this wonderful network, I am so amazed how much I learn everytime I stop here and I am a seasoned ryzer (3 years). There is always room to learn and grow, no matter how much you feel you already have absorbed :) PatriciaPrivate Reply to T.E.A.M.
