Creative Filler Ideas... Part 1
by Krystal Garcia

I thought it might be helpful to post a little article about fillers. I realize we have some newbies here, and the rest of us are veteraln Chicks (I can't believe I'm a veteran Chick already!) and we don't think twice about the tech lingo or filler lingo, etc. I remember when I first came on line and joined ryze, and even some of the yahoo groups, I was COMPLETELY lostabout certain things...ESPECIALLY about what fillers were, how to make them etc. Plus, I noticed it's been a long while since I've contributed any articles or tips, etc...so here goes!

A Filler:
Is a promotional item of yours that is placed into the orders/shipments/product deliveries/mail correspondence/craft show goodie bags, etc of other work-from home/business women as a means to help promote eachother's business. Be creative with your fillers! Make your fillers and your company stand out! Here are some ideas:

If you are/Sell:

Children's crafts/Craft products/Children's toys:
#1.A small pack of crayons with a personalized label with your name , business name and contact info (including website)

#2. A crayon-shaped eraser attatched to your business card.

#3: A short craft product recall list that you can find from other companies. You can put this on a post-card and on the back, type something like.."Compliments of..." and put your name/company name & info etc.

#4 Small bottle of glue (you can get these in packs of 4 or so at dollar stores for just $1 in the craft section) Personalize by slapping a label on the fron with a snappy tagline that says something like.."Get your kids stuck on crafts!" And then of course, personalize!

#5. A mini craft...something as inexpensive as felt can be used to promote your business! Simply cut ot the felt (or even buy foam shapes) to assemble a little craft. This can be a person...-a circle for the head, a rectangle for the body, and 4 small rectangles for arms & legs...put the un-assembled craft into a small plastic zip bag with instructions and a business card.

Cooking/Food Business (T-Ware, Pampered Chef..Gourmet Mixes, etc):
#1.-Magnets! Magnets are always a GREAT promotional item! Especially when they are personalized with your info on them!

#2. Chocolate-dipped spoon..and attatched..your business card!

#3. Recipe cards! Perhaps even with a recipe on it! Make sure you personalize with your info though!

#4. Wooden Spoons....seriously...I know that some of them may be long, but some stores sell the shorter ones too! You can even find these in packs of 2 or 3 @ local dollar stores. Attach to the spoon a recipe card withan accompanying mix from your company. Have your business info on the back of the recipe card! Punch a hole in the card and the sample mix bag, tie those together, and then tie them both to the spoon!

#5. Sample Spice Mixes always go over well...just make sure you have your contact label on them!

Cosmetics/Skin Care:
#1. Make-over in a bag! Fill a medium-sized pastic zip bag...the sturdy kind you find in crafts stores, with 2 eyeshadow samples, a lipstick/gloss sample and an eyeliner. If your company provides "Look cards" with these samples on them already, even better! Make sure to include your business card and/or a coupon!

#2. Make-up brushes...can be found..yep! You guessed it! The dollar store (can you tell I frequent that place? LOL) Place a business card of your inside the case (they are usually a flexible plastic or vinyl) and a label as well with you info. It wouldn't hurt to theow an eyeshadow sample or two in with it either!

#3. Lipstick erasers. check out the Oriental Trading company http://www.orientaltrading.com they have a TON of ideas for fillers, etc at bulk prices. They also have lipstick erasers and lipstick candies!

Body Care/Aromatherapy:
#1. Again, small sample products always help! If your company does not offer sampler sizes, check out: http://www.specialtybottle.com lots of bottles etc to choose from!

#2. A pack of mini incense. Even a stick or two of full-size incence in the appropriate sized zip bag with your business card etc.

#3. Soaps, etc...make mini soaps with candy molds. They are inexpensive to make, and will promote your product. Put them in a small zipper bag..with a biz card, coupon etc.

Candle Companies/Products
#1. If you make your own candles, pre-make business card size cards with a scent printed on it. On the back of the card, your info. Then on the scent side, drop a few drops of melted wax onto the card. Put the card in a zip bag..and BAM! (As Emeril would say, LOL) you have a sample!

#2. Tealights-attatch your label or business card to it

#3. Votives...ditto

#4. Wax tarts...same thing

#5. A book of matches personalized with your info on it!

Scrapbooking:
#1. Take two or three scapbook sheets and cut them into small squares. (Abou3 3") Compile them into booklets. Print specials on each one of them, maybe make it cute with some rubber stamping, punch a hole in the top left corner of each booklet, tie a ribbon..and whella! You have a coupon booklet made with your own product!

Fashion/Clothing/Accessories:
#1. There are many novelty companies, such as Oriental Trading Co listed above, that sell novelty items such as key chains. Sunglasses shaped key chains, flip flop sandla ket chains etc, all make good fillers.

#2. Mini Foam flip flops. If you are crafty and creative, you can easily make a foam thong flip flop with foam, a patter, maybe a couple of funky silk daisy flowers and hot glue. You could also find a design on the web for a cute heel-sshaped shoe and just use that as a template to make a foam shoe biz card magnet!

#3. Taking that one step further...you can also make a hand-bag shapped magnet with the foam!

Hope these gave you all some ideas and inspiration...
